Well, the safety explanation may be an afterthought, but it works for me. I also like it on the right so that there is no concern about parking too close to the gas pump, then having trouble getting out without banging your door on something.

I don't like it, infact just today I went to fill up my car and pulled up to the pumps on the drivers side (like my last car) only had the G for 2 weeks now, and this is my second fill up. I had to get back in and move to another pump, felt pretty stupid. So I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

I don't buy the BMW on the right for safety reason. The only reason being is if you break down/run out of gas on the autobahn, it is like $1000 fine (or euro equivelent). I never saw German cars broken down on the side of the road.

Our cars were also designed for Japanese roads orginally, left hand side of the road, means your *** would be in traffic to fill up.

I think it is just to mix things around so not everyone has a left side tank fill. My two cents.

remember buying gas with ODD and EVEN license plates?

How about colored flags to signal that a gas station had gas?

My explorer is on one side and the G35 is on the other. I never remember what side the gas cap is on. I just look at gas gauge. For each vehicle, there is an arrow that tells me what side the gas cap is on.

Most gas station pump hoses will stretch across the car and fill the tank on the opposite side. Especially handy for those Costco fuel station lines.. you can pick the shortest line of all, not just from half of them.

I like it on the right side - kinda makes me feel like an F1 driver pulling into the pits (lame I know - all I need is the guys to lift the car, replace my wheels, and fill her up).

Did anybody notice that only rear wheel drive cars have the gas tank on the passenger side?
