Outdoor temperature sensor

2004 G35x, my outdoor temperature sensor reads 12 - 15 degrees F below the actual temperature. Before I pull it and check its resistance against the calibration chart, has anyone else had this problem?

Thank you!

I had mine replaced about 2 months ago but only because it seemed to be very slow to adapt to changes.

Just get the dealer to replace it under warranty.

There was a tech bulletin for the sensor, but the reason for the replacement is that they usually read much higher than the actual outside temp after the car is operated, then parked, then operated again.

Agree w/RBull, talk to your service rep to see if you can get it fixed under warranty.

I found a disturbing statement in the service manual. It says that in order to avoid constant fluctuation the response was intentionally slowed to no faster than 0.6° F change every 100 seconds. That would be 0.36° F per minute, or 3.6° F in ten minutes.

In other words, if you are moving from a cool garage onto the road, or have stopped to buy something and the engine has heat-soaked the sensor, it could be a half hour before it reads the truth! Avoiding meaningless noise in the readings is great, but a half hour? Duh.

I also heard about a reset procedure posted a couple of years ago, and it seems to help:

I have tried the reset procedure, and it definitely works.

As of late, mine hasn't been getting stuck at the lower temp, but a couple of months ago, it was getting stuck all the time.

Mine reads high after sitting in the sun all day but I have seen it go down in temp way faster than what you read. Typically within 5-10 mins of driving it has come down to the outside temp.

That's good, maybe the manual has a misprint. Nah, no way!

Mine read 109 when I left work last night and 10 minutes later it was at 101 which is about right.

Mine has been reading high (10-20deg) ever since I picked it up in Japan. Something in shipping really fkd it up.

I've seen 123 on my dash and I wasn't dying when I went outside. It was hot, but definately not that hot. I'm going to try that reset procedure.
