Anyone with Fire/Rescue? and where do you put your light(s)?
Anyone with Fire/Rescue? and where do you put your light(s)?
I am a volunteer EMT in NJ...and I have a red light to put in the dash (when my are arrives...still on order)...can anyone tell me how they put there blue light/ red light in their Sedan?
Re: Anyone with Fire/Rescue? and where do you put your light(s)?
Do you have to buy your own light or use the one provided by your department?
If money is no issue, I installed a new LED visor strobe in a guys Murano. VERY attention getting.
Whelen Dashmiser with suction cups could be kept in glove box and set up on dash when you need it.
If you are stuck with a Whelen or Federal "bubble gum machine" keep it in the trunk and drive at the speed limit

Re: Anyone with Fire/Rescue? and where do you put
Oh my heavens no...we can buy and install whatever we desire. Which is great. I am even thinking about wigwags...Spoke to a few State Troopers and they said no problem to install them.
I have a few friends that have the visor strobes...you really think that would be a good idea instead of a dash mount? That would look pretty cool with the wig wags going...hummmmm something to think about.
Thanks a bunch!!!

Wigwags, hmmm, do you have HID lights? I don't know if that would be good for the bulbs, HIDs don't like to be turned on/off alot.
I'll have to research that and I'll let you know what I find.

Oh, never thought about this, how about when using the auto setting on the lights, they sometimes come on in a darker area, then go off as you leave, hmmmm, but I guess "wigwag" is much more extreme.

Re: Anyone with Fire/Rescue? and where do you put
Well it's a good thing I spoke - I mean wrote my question to the forum..I never thought about that. I think maybe I will stay away from wig wags..but what about strobes in the rear tails? I cover a part of an interstate, and I hate when people get on my a** when responding to a squad call..if I had strobes in the back, I am sure they would back off.
I really want to thank you for letting me know about the visor strobes..I am looking into that..can you tell me, after you installed them for a friend, were they happy and have they commented that they "move" people out of the way?
My hubby doesn't seem to think it would be as effective as the "rotating" light...let me know your thoughts

There's a note on page 2-18 of the Owners Manual that says the life of the Xenon bulbs will be "significantly reduced" by turning the lights off for short periods.

"if I had strobes in the back, I am sure they would back off" HA! Don't bet on it.
Anyway, I contacted Whelen and they confirmed wigwags aren't good for HID lights.
The LED visor lights are VERRY bright, (some even say TOO bright for night time use) people will definately notice.
The strobes in the tail lights work good. They are fairly cheap and pretty easy to install, you just have to drill a big hole in the inside of the reflector then the strobe "twist locks" into the hole. You do have to mount the box and run thick cables to the lights. Then run one wire to the batery for power and one wire to whatever switch you want to use to turn it on.
Galls is kinda expensive. Try this link.

Re: Anyone with Fire/Rescue? and where do you put
Not that I have any experience with such products, but just a though/suggestion:
The high beams on the G35 are regular halogen bulbs. Don't those light flashing devices use the high beams, not the low beams, when they flash?

Re: Anyone with Fire/Rescue? and where do you put
Oh this is so wonderful...I do appreciate all your advise and direction. I think I will stay away from the Wig Wags...the last thing I want to do is replace my light bulbs every few months from burnout.
I am glad to hear that the visor strobe is very bright. I think I will go that route, as my old dash mount light might be a little too big.
I will still consider the strobes for the back...and you are probably rite...they people won't get off my back..if anything they will push harder...

Re: Anyone with Fire/Rescue? and where do you put
Strobes are a good way to go..I had them in my Durango and now are thinking of putting them in my G.. One question I got to ask is the area big enough that they won't burn the lense.
I got mine unit from the internet (Sirennet.com).. I shopped around and they were one of the cheapest for a Whelen set up.. (6 strobes).

Re: Anyone with Fire/Rescue? and where do you put
Ah, ya beat me to it. I was making a left turn on the way into work tonight and accidentally bumped the high beams on (still getting used to the new car) and I saw the reflection of the beams in the tail gate of a truck in front of me.
So, (thinking out loud) if the low beams are HID and the highs are halogen, you could wigwag the high beams during the day and at night as long as the switch was on low beam. Turn the high beams on and the wigwag would turn off cause you don't want to wig your highs now or your HID lows.
This is normal wigwag opperation and is normally controlled by the box. But that brings up the fact that the Whelen engineer said they didn't make HID compatible wigwag controller boxes.
I know we throw all kinds of wierd stuff into city cars. I don't know that I would want to experiment on my own car and maybe void the warranty on thousand dollar HID lights though.

Re: Anyone with Fire/Rescue? and where do you put
I agree with you on the Wig Wag theory...It would be my luck, they would constantly burn out or I would have a car fire...I think I will stick with manually flashing my lights (that's my current way of wig wagging people) but I will inquire about the strobes. I have already priced the Visor Strobes...I am going to order them when my car comes in.
