hey guys, i noticed that everytime i fill up my gas tank, it only takes about 16-17 gallons. I usually fill up soon after the light comes on too. our tank is supposed to be 20 gallons. anybody else have this happen? is it normal? or is it just me?

I am able to fill around 16 gallons. I usually fill just around the lower mark before the light comes on.

 

Even when I run it past the light, 'till the Nav system says "zero miles, let me find a gas station for you" the most I've been able to squeeze in is about 18-1/2.

It's just the reserve capacity. Fuel gauges and lights always claim to be empty a little early.

I put over 19 gallons in once, but I was sweatin it to make it to the pump. It's obviously a 20 gallon tank, but most of the time fill ups run in the 16-17 gallon range.

 

I nearly always run the tank empty so that the needle
is below empty and the light is on. The most I have put
into the G is 18 gal. Relax, I think it is normal.

19.3 gallons is the most ive put in my g. and i dont have navi either to tell me how much gas i have remaining, so i was really rolling the dice then... kinda like when kramer decided to drive until the car died.. =)

Mine has navi and it will zero out even if you have about two gallons left.

 

Once I forgot to stop at the gas station when the fuel light was on, and ended up running around town all day (50+ miles) before the engine started sputtering while I was taking corners. Luckily a gas station was close, I filled up with 19.5 gallons. I've noticed the light comes on when there's still 3-4 gallons left.

I've got no clue. Got off work at midnight and was gonna stop for my very first fill-up, I was excited

So, it's raing like crazy, and first thing I do is pull up on the wrong side. Get back in and pull around to the right side and now there's rain hitting the side of the door. Back up to get out of the rain. Now I can't get the freaking gas fill door open!!! At this point I say screw it and head home, I'll fill up at the cheapo station around the corner tomorrow.

#2, OK, so I read the manual. I have to have ALL the doors unlocked to open the gas fill door????? That's the stupidest thing I ever heard. In my 'hood, the first thing I do when I get out of the car at the station is lock the doors. What kinda stupid design is this

The kind that's fancier, more complicated, and less convenient than a simple fuel door lever inside the car. Oh well. That's what the key fob is for. [img]/w3timages/icons/smile.gif[/img]

My guess is the G wasn't designed for the 'hood... probably wasn't a huge consideration. If you want, take the keyfob with you, unlock the doors when you go to get the cap, then lock em as soon as you open it.

Nope, doesn't work. If you use the FOB to open all the doors, then open the gas fill door, then lock the doors, then close the fill door, the fill door isn't locked.

I'd rather not have a lock on the gas fill door than have to have all my doors unlocked.

I guess it's not a huge deal. But I feel uncomfortable having my doors unlocked ANYWHERE. Gas stations are prime locations for crime. Especially since we just got a lottery here and everybody is hanging out at the stations playing scratch&sniff.

Interesting... don't think I've been to a gas station that I felt unsafe in, especially since most registers face the pumps now. Regardless, you'd have to unlock the doors again to get back in, then once in lock them. I'm assuming the fill door would be closed at this point, so it's now locked. Tada.

Yeah, the dead empty mark on the fuel gauge actually leaves you with about 2 gallons. After the gas needle cannot move down anymore (burried under the E, I still drive quite a ways and never ran out of gas. Most of my fill-ups are in the 19.x gallon range. I am just a procrastinator. I love it though, because I ran out of gas more than a few times with my last car. The G works perfect for me.

I thought it was a print error at first as well, stating a 20 gallon tank. However, after significant experimentation, I found the tank does indeed hold 20gallons.

I ran the car past the E light for at least 50 miles on four separate occasions; the navi just said **** miles to empty. I never ran out of fuel, and the most I pumped back in was 19.78 gallons.

It's a 20 gallon tank alright, they just have the level sensor set very conservatively.
