FiberGlassed some boxes. A first for me.

Yeah, I'm DONE!!! They sound really good, too.

Hey guys, I'm trying to build a couple of 12" ported boxes to go into the corners of our trunk. I have been working on this for about a week or so. Here is my progress so far.

I have started on the passenger side first. Next week I'll start on the driver side.

Found out the hard way that if you ask Home Depot to cut some wood for you, you own the whole slab.

Work Bench 1.0

Passenger side tapped off (two layers of tape and a coat or two of wax)

Initial mold

Look the carpet is still clean, yeah

Work Bench 2.0 (I'm comming up in the world )

Initial layer of glass mat

I was able to turn my jig into a table saw, yeah.

Here I was able to turn my Meguiars Dual Action Polisher into a high speed sander, yeah again...

Base board for the bottom of the box.

Rings glued into place.

Update 1

A few layers of everything.

Update 2
Bondo

Primed and tested. I have a few air leaks through the sub and terminal block.

Alright guys, I'm bringing this one back to life.
I was having issues with my subs and had stopped the project.

Today UPS delivered my motivation.

Here I used bondo on the back of the foam and then I foamed behind the bondo to give it strength.
I have now removed the inner (original) foam and this is what I'm left with.

Taped and waxed. I'll probably start on the glassing tomorrow.

Driver side inner fiberglass and the the wooden structure.

Almost done DOMO
This is how it fits in. (as you can see No Bondo this time, I did a better job time.)

I am still able to use the net.
This is how they look together. I plan to put the amp right under the parcel shelf where it won't be visible.

More to come... Soon I promise.
Wow looks good can't wait to see it. I've been doing my own custom install for bout 5 years now but haven't tried fiberglass yet. I need a good project car and not willing to try it with my "05 G. Good luck

This is my only car and my original sub box broke. (Plexi split)
So, I didn't have a choice.

Please keep updating with pics. That seems like it will look awesome once you're done!

Looks like you've done some professional installing?? Once you have a finished product, if it sounds good, maybe we can talk about you building me one...interested?

looking good. how come you didn't want to flush mount, instead of surface mount, the woofer and the port?

Not really sure how I would cut the corners without a router. I may end up trying that on the other side.

Everyone, thanks for the kind comments.

Looking good bro. Before you finish put some dynamat or other sound deadening material inside the enclosure, it will make the enclosure sound more like wood than fiberglass.

I was thinking about doing that. I was thinking about putting some v4 eDead inside (it goes on like a paint).

Current state. I'm applying bondo right now and I also raised up the corners of where the sub will be with it. To try and make it flush mount (Thanks to QuadCam ). We'll see if that will be strong enough or not.

Back to sanding for me
