28 Mpg!

I am quite amazed that I got 500 miles out of a tank of gas this weekend. I drove to central Oregon from the Bay Area CA. to visit a friend for the holiday. This is a 480 mile trip one way. I filled up before I left and got there on that same tank of gas I left with and drove it until the odo said 500. Then on the way home, again, filled up in oregon, came all the way home on the same tank of gas, went and filled up, Odo had 482.6 miles on it and filled it up which was 17.001 gallons, dividing that up comes to 28.386 MPG.

My car is a bone stock 06 sedan 5AT with sport package.

I do NOT speed so that may have helped my good mileage. I was driving 65/70MPH the whole trip. About half and half.

My city mileage is average, 19-20 MPG, I wish it was more but I guess I cannot complain since other people get alot worse, I have never really gotten under 19 MPG city.

What really gets me is that I did the same trip in my old I35 and I couldnt get that kinda mileage, best I got in the I was 26 MPG.

I was a lurker here for over a year before I got a G so I expected to get crappy gas mileage and now I'm really pleased that I must have picked the G thats not a gasaholic like many others are.

I've only done that once from AL to SC and back and got 26.36 in my 04 MT. That was doing 75 cruise the entire way. Won't do it again, it too boring for a car with this much power. LET ERR RIP

wow.. i wish i could get that on my way texas... i usually make it to texas from florida in EXACTLY 2 tanks (796 mi. from point A to point B) sometimes going 120 during the middle of the night to make decent time but for the most part doing 75, so i guess not too bad..

gtbigup01, very true... i can't drive this car for 12 hours and expect not to go 120 or 130 at least once or twice..

More proof that these cars are capable of decent mpgs. My best was 29.9mpg on a trip from Atlanta to St. Augustine, FL last year. This was with two adults, one child, about 150lbs of beach gear out back, 90+ degree temps, AC on the entire way, averaging about 70mph. I typically see 27-28mpg in pure highway driving out here in the more hilly Midwest.

I did 450 with 19 gallons for the first time last weekend. I think my car runs more efficiently in hot weather. The weather was anywhere from 95-115 F.
