i dunno if you are familiar with the mechanical fan that nissan puts in a lot of their vehicles....especially the older z's and the 240sx. But i have an early 2004 and i also have a mechanical fan setup. You will get that loud airplane sound from the fan when the clutch is engaged. It sux but either get used to it or do a fan conversion which is what i'm planning on doing.

Normal mechanical fan operation. Upon start up, the fan will be engaged. Once you go over about 10-15mph, the clutch disengages. There's nothing wrong with the car.

mine is almost always on...I'll be pulling out of my garage driving slow and there ti is the sound of a massive fan, and as I accelerate it sounds like the fan is speeding up and getting louder.

I wonder if it is relate to the issue I am having with the radio/climate control board. That issue is driving em nuts, turns on the AC at full power and sets it at freezing temp..unreal. But I did notice when this was not acting up that the fan noise was nto there...hmmmm...i wonder if it's related then. I hear the fan I'd say 90% of the time the far is running

I wonder what this can be. I had my friend rev the engine while i was under the hood...as he revs more air blows out from the engine and the fan speeds up greatly...is this normal? is there maybe a temp sensor broken??

Fan Noise

I've got an 03 sedan as well with the same issue. As best I can tell it is b/c the car has a mechanical (crankshaft driven) fan instead of electrics. Its annoying though, sounding like an 88 Chevy Blazer all the time!!! Has anyone converted theirs to electric fans? Will the Z car fans work?

It gets louder when you rev it up b/c the fan is driven off the crankshaft. When you give it gas, the crankshaft spins faster, thus spinning the fan faster.

Search for e-fan conversion. Several have done it for around $300 and a few hours.

The fan should be disengaging above 20mph. I rarely hear mine. If there was a fan problem, the ECU would know it.

I think the radio issue I am having is affecting this maybe...the fan sounds ridiculous. Dropping it off in the am with the dealer, see what happens, hopefully they will honor the bad board on the radio recall.

Also I don't have a z-tube....why did you ask?

Better to get authentic Z-tube or aftermarket polished pipe?
