Bike rack with Aero package

Anyone found a bike rack that will work on a sedan with the rear spoiler. Trunk mount, not roof. ???

Re: Bike rack with Aero package

Hey,

Just thought I'd chime in on this. My experience with bike racks has taught me a couple of things.

Trunk mount racks are bad for your sheet metal and your paint. Roof mount racks cause scratches and uneven fading of the paint in the long term, similar to old fashioned leather bras that people put on the front of their cars. IE the paint wears normally where its exposed, and doesn't wear where its covered up. It the rack is removed you can usually see where it was sitting.

The best rack solution, IMO, is the hitch mount rack. Sure the hitch (w/o the rack) doesn't really enhance the appearance of the car. But it does keep the bikes off the car, and you can remove the rack when you're not using it. No scratches, or fading due to hitch racks.

Most roof racks go for about $400 I believe. The hitch rack I use cost $175 and the hitch was $150 installed. I'm not sure it there's a hitch available for the G, but that's the way I'm going if I decide to put a bike rack on it. I may just keep using my old Isuzu P'up for bike duties though

Just my 2˘

I take the bike apart and stick it all in the trunk. Got to lower the seatpost too, but everything fits!!
The final criteria for buying the car was my biike had to fit inside. You should have seen the look on the salespeoples faces when I wheeled my MTB into the showroom and proceeded to stuff it in the trunk- hahaha!

so what happens if the bike is really filthy from a muddy ride,
what are u gonna do then? I guess u can line the trunk area
with plastic I guess. My suggestion would be to go with a hitch
rack. I 've done the trunk thing as well and I find it a hassel
taking the bike apart. my $.02

My G is absolutely "Mavelus"!

Re: Bike rack with Aero package

actually, I use a gallon pressure sprayer for the garden with water and spray the bike down before I put in away. At first, the rest of my friends thought I was being a BIT to retentive, but as the weeks have gone by, more and more of them have been showing up. So I vacuumm the trunk out at each wash, no big deal.
I just think trunk racks do more damage than good and hitches are real ugly when not in use. And I won't put my Thule on my G, I just take the Maxima when I've got company.
just my $.03

Re: Bike rack with Aero package

I have looked for a hitch package for the purpose of putting a bike rack into it.

No luck. I hear De'lan is working on one, and I guess you can get one custom (but I wonder if it will be as good as one designed for the car).

Has anyone found a hitch that will fit the sedan??

I'm also interested in the hitch for my sedan. If anyone hears of one, please post it here.

We need to petition HiddenHitch (http://www.hiddenhitch.com/Home/) to build a hitch for the G35 sedan and coupe. Contact them by phone at 1-800-632-3290.
