Rear Door Speaker Size - 2003 G35 Sedan

Hi all,

I have a 2003 G35 Sedan with the "Premium" Bose package (quotes intended), but am looking at replacing the entire system with aftermarket Focal speakers and Audison amps. The issue I am having is getting the size for the rear speakers before I order them without taking the door panel off (not my specialty so I'll leave the install to someone more qualified). I am quite sure that they are 6.5 inch coaxial, but was just wondering if someone could confirm for me.

Thanks.

Shaun

No, the bose sedans use 5 1/4" rears and the non-bose are 6 1/2".

At least they were that way on the two bose sedans I worked on.

The Bose sedan uses 5.25" speakers from the factory, but I put 6.5" Polks back there not long ago - this is on a 2003.5 sedan.

Thanks guys. I am still a little confused.

fastride06,
The Crutchfield site was actually the one that started my string of confusion. When I select the 2003 Infiniti G35 with Bose it shows me 6 3/4" fronts and 5 1/4" rears. Without Bose it is 6 3/4" fronts and rears. I definitely have the Bose system, but other websites (which I magically can't find again) suggest what you said and list 6 3/4" front and rear.

So would you guys suggest that I order some coaxial 6 1/2" speakers for the rear and they should fit? Or should I be cautious and order the 5 1/4" speakers because they are most likely to easily fit?

Thanks again.

Shaun

The rear door speakers on our sedans are in fact 5 1/4" speakers. Most companies simply do not know that the Bose speakers are smaller than the stock speakers in the rear, hence the confusion.

So if the rear speakers are 5.25" with the Bose system, would it be difficult to put 6.5" speakers in there?

JimNC, you mention having 6.5" speakers in your G35, but I am wondering how much difficulty you had putting them in?

Thanks.

The only kind of difficulty I had was the screws did not seem to line up very well with the brackets on the speakers - but really it was pretty easy. The fronts were a lot more of a pain than the rears.

I would just use the Crutchfield speaker selector - I think it is pretty darn accurate. I think it said the fronts need slim 6.5" speakers but I am pretty sure anything will work in the rear if memory serves. Please double-check me though.

The ones I have done we put 6.5 up front and 5.25 rear. I would stick with that.

Thanks JimNC and ttrank. I think that based on your thoughts and Crutchfield's site that I'll stick with the 5 1/4" rears. It should make for an easier install I would think even if there were larger speakers in my car I should be able to use an adapter.

My attention's now turned though to JimNC's thought on needing slim speakers in the fronts. I hadn't even had that thought yet and couldn't find mention of it on Crutchfield or anywhere else. Do you guys think that the Focal 165A1's will be too big for the door and I should go with something slimmer?

Thanks.

BTW, I was able to get the part number from my local dealership for the rear door speakers. The part number is 28155-6P100. Does anyone know what size that would be?

Thanks.

My sedan has 6.5 inch coaxials in its rear doors. With an MDF spacer, it should be no problem fitting them there.

You should consider getting MDF spacers for the front doors too so that the drivers will be seated at the door panel's speaker grill rather than an inch or so behind the panel. You won't have any speaker depth worries then.

Thanks for the tips Gilley. I will look into the MDF spacers (are they something I can order online or just get from a stereo install place?).

And you don't think that I should have a problem with the front Focal speakers being too large to fit into the front doors?

Thanks.

The fronts are made for 6.5 inch speakers, so the Focals won't be too large. I doubt they will be too deep wither, but you should still get MDF spacers. You can find them on eBay or at www.zenclosures.com.

I have Focals all around in my car and needed spacers for the front and rear. I used ABS spacers not MDF but they work the same.

The K2P's will need spacers.
