Does your G ever overheat?

I was just driving back from giong to lunch ,(only about 2 miles) and when i was almost home i noticed the temp gauge was reading 3/4 to the top. (Usually its always jsut below half)

Is this something to worry about? I checked and coundnt see any type of coolant leaks or anything. I did add a type amount of coolant as i had some in my garage, but the level looked about right.

Thoughts?

I beat the **** out of my car even when it is 120 (I also drive a steep grade home) and it has never even looked like it was going to overheat. My car is my daily driver (110 miles five days a week), has over 40k on it and is an auto. How many miles do you have? What year car? Has the coolant system ever been flushed? Has the thermostat ever been changed? Is the oil level low? Check all of these things first and your problem might be found. If your car starts to overheat turn on the heater/defroster as hot as it can get and that should keep it cool until you can get it fixed.

How many miles and did the car get any service like radiator flush or anything done to it? There might be a slow leak or air bubble in the system...I would have it checked out...You rather be safe then sorry...Blown head gaskets are expensive to fix...

you've got some sipherin' to do my friend good luck! The good thing is that theres only so many parts to a cooling system. Its quite possible that your gauge or sending unit is messed but, I wouldn't count on it!!

I just bought the car 3 weeks ago

2004 6MT

45k miles

Never went above maybe just under half way the whole time ive had it (only a few weeks)

Today is the first time its ever happend, and it happend twice. Went to walmart and it was all the way to the Top Line. Drive is also only about 2 miles away, so not far at all.

On the way home, i turned it on and opened the hood ot make sure all the fans were running right, looked ok, i noticed some coolant was leaking out, around the radiator cap. hmm

It was way hot by the timei got home, smelt like burnt coolant kinda.

Dam this isnt, good, i wonder if im still in warranty.

Ok, well i tried to see if i could pinpoint the source of this coolant leaking out.

I turned the car on and let it idle for several minutes, jacked it up, and i could def see coolant was leaking slowly but steadily from the front passenger side area, but hard to pinpoint because of the large plastic piece covering the bottom. I wonder if it could jsut be a loose hose or something?

It started heating up pretty quick even just idling with the hood open, i added coolant to the max level, stayed at the rigth level but kept heating up.

When i turned off the car after about 10 - 15 mins, i heard a bubbling sound comming from the radiator area, bubbled for a good few mins, loud enough to hear it without putting your head down there.

What in the world could this be? I hope this is covered under warranty

I just found this online, could this be the problem?

Radiator: The radiator cap gasket may swell over time and when it does, will not allow the cap to vent properly resulting in overheating and lost coolant. (2003-04)

i hope my warranty will cover this, its an 04 with 45k miles

I am definetly leaking coolant pretty fast, its a large puddle after running for about 10-15 mins, maybe its a lose hose or something

i hate the dam huge plastic cover under the car so hard to take off those milloins of screws

gonna try that and see if i can pinpoint the leak

will replace the cap as soon as dealer opens

Coolant leak.........?

I seriously doubt if the cap is the problem. Run your car until the temp comes
up and then remove the plastic undercover. With a flashlight check out where
the leak is coming from, chances are it's a hose. Worst case would be the
plastic side tanks on our radiators. Your leak should be easy to spot, they
normally are. If you have an active warranty let them fix your leeeeek!

Faulty rad cap. There is a TSB on them. I had mine replaced. No overheating but it was causing my rad hose to collapse.

Would the faulty rad cap, cause a leak also? I guess it could pressurize and force fluid out in another spot.

I can try this first and see if it works

Ya you must determine where your losing coolant, sometimes it can be a bitch. If theres a TSB on the cap I would first rule that out then move on to hoses and clamps then look for cracks always remember K.I.S.S. ( keep it simple stupid) but if you just take the time to find exactly where its leaking you can figure it out!!! When you fix it and top it off always remember to "burp" or "purge" the cooling system or else it will overheat again when an air bubble get in there. Good luck!!
