Strange Noise from engine
Strange Noise from engine
When I start the car in the morning for the first time its cold I hear a chirpy type of noise from the engine. Once the car is warmed its not there. Yesterday when I started the car I tried to narrow down where its coming from. Its coming from just a little right of the white coolant filling tank. I think there is a pulley and belt there for the fan maybe that is it.
Anyone has any idea? similar experience.
It goes down and then gone within a minute or so as thr car warms up.

Re: Strange Noise from engine
I bet it's the belts. Mine is not just churping but squeling like a ^&*&^. There is TSB out for our sedan on that. They have to reposition the alernator to stop the belt slipping. Take it in! Iam taking mine in very soon.
To diagnose it, go out and buy a can of belt dressing. When the car is cold and you confrm that the noise is present, shut off the ca, spray some of the dressing on the inside of the right belt (left side as you look on to the engine from the front - the one that drives the alternator and the PS pump),a nd startthe car. If the noise is gone, it's your belt!!!

Re: Strange Noise from engine
Oh, don't use the belt dressing, that stuff is crap, I have tried that in the past, and it actually made the noise worse, a lot worse, then had to clean the pulleys off with brake cleaner to get rid of it once the belt was replaced!

ABQ,
Did you read my post at all or are you just talking... I said to use it to DIAGNOSE it, not to use it continuously. I don't know what you used, but the belt dressing that I used made the sound disapper and it is a good diagnostic tool. Also, it did not make any sound, it is NOT oily, etc. It increases the friction between surfaces.

Yeah, I did read it, just wanted to pass along my experience with it is all, I used a spray which I bought at PepBoys, maybe the increase in friction is what made it noiser since the belt was getting older! LOL, I try not to "just talk"!

ABQ,
Sorry, I didn't mean to come across adversarial. I am kind of in a bad mood today. I just wanted to say that that was not my experience (with the belt dressing that is). I am just a little fed up with the various "specialists" that pop up on the forum and claim that they "know" things where they obviously don't. I think that all your posts are very good, logical and informative. and that certainly does not apply to you. Sorry once again, I snapped i guess.
Good luck.

Re: Strange Noise from engine
gurgenpb,
I will take it to the dealer soon too. Mine is not that bad some noticable chirping but not loud enough to easily hear over the loud G35 engine. But I realize it is going to get worse over time.
Please let me know the TSB# and also for how long this covered free? my car has 22K on it. How long the dealer took to get it fixed?
Thanks

Re: Strange Noise from engine
I have the same noise on cold starts, but it doesn't really seem like belt squeal. It almost sounds like it is coming from the heads. I brought it in to the dealer and got the world famous, "Oh that's completely normal." Of course when I ask why the loaner car doesn't make the noise, they can't answer that other than, "All cars sound different." What a load of sh*t. Anyway, I have alot of warranty left, so we'll see if it gets worse.

Hey guys
These f*^$ing dealer in the bay area begin to **** me off. I have been trying to find out what the heck the TSB# is , and Serramonte Infiniti tells me that they don't know about teh "recall". I tell them that it is NOT a recall but only a bulletin, so I would not get a letter in the mail (they demanded to see it). Infiniti of Marin is the one which told me right away about the TSB, but I have not been able to talk tot heir service dept either. I can swear that the dealers out here are terrible. I can't wait to get back to L.A.
THe bad thing is that I am not hearing any sounds coming from teh belts now, so when I take it in they are gonna give me the whole "we can't replicate the problem" routine.
I'll keep trying.
