Gas tank issue

I may be having the same issue some people have reported previously. Either I can't fill up the tank, or the gauge is now off.

8 miles after a fillup, where I tried a few times after it stopped, it is already below 'F'. Historically, it lasted at least 20-30 miles before dropping below 'F'.

Of course, I'm 2 months past the warranty period

When you fill up & the pump won't pump any more, is your gauge well below F? If so, you need your fuel senders replaced...that happened to me...really sucks, but that's the fix.

I had the issue fixed under service bulletin. If you can't pump anymore gas and it keeps on clicking you can try doing this.

Don't insert the nozzle all the way into the gas tank neck. Instead pull it out a bit so the nozzle boot is not covering the neck. That should do the trick.

This problem occurs on FXs more than Gs. I had it happen on my FX and they replaced the Fuel Shutter Valve. Still happens occasionally, so I think they should have replaced both Fuel Sending Units. That is the fix.

calling the dealer right now to make an appointment for that reason. I did not even know it was abnormal to do so.

i had the same problem when I first got my car. Went to the dealer for the fuel shutter valve issue and they did not fix it for me. What worked is that I went to a different gas station and it never happened again. **knock on wood**

I had my fuel senders replaced. My buddy has same issue in his FX. He was told by the dealership that there are 3 different types of gas pumps used in the US. 1 or 2 of them are not really compatible with Nissan/Infiniti... Their recomendation...find a station that works and purchase there for your normal usage. Not the best advice, but what can ya do!

Are you serious that this is what they told you? Well, I can't really say it's true or not but it sure does sound like a pile of crap they're throwing at you. So I guess this is a good way for the dealer to keep telling you: "Sorry, we won't replace anything because you're using a non-Nissan-compatible gas station. Keep looking for a compatible gas station.". Ha ha ha. I've never heard such crap!!!! Dealerships never fail to amaze...

Yeah, that's what they told him about his FX. I have a G35 and the fuel senders were replaced at about 15K by Infiniti of Lisle near Chicago. He was told the gas station idea by an Infiniti dealer in Minneapolis.
EDIT: This is also the same dealership that fixed his starting issue, only to have the FX nt start 3 days later in a parking garage in downtown Minne. The tow truck driver had to bang on the starter to have it engage. When he got it to the dealer in Minne they said "sorry, we thought it was a problem with the ignition...not the starter..." maybe he should find another dealer

I don't know whether it is covered under my extended warranty or not, since I am now 2 months over 4 years with the car. I don't think it is the gas station, since it has happened at a couple stations, including one I've used for 4 years.

The last fillup, it stayed over F for just 8 miles, so it probably isn't too bad yet.

I'll keep an eye on it. my next planned visit to my infiniti dealership is next fall, when I get to the 60K service. I do the "minor" 7500 and 3750 service at a local Nissan dealership, since there isn't a local Infiniti.

Thanks,

It is apparently between the sensor and the gauge. I filled up today, and continued after it clicked off. It overflowed, and the needle was barely to the bottom of the F line.
