You are half right. The z, coupes, and sedans share the same parts all the way back to the mid-pipe. Z and coupes can swap axle-backs, with the exception that the g mid-pipe is 4 inches longer than a z mid-pipe (which can easily be remedied with an extension), but sedans have a completely different axle-back (the last segment of the exhaust that has the muffler).

I know it has been a while since this post, but just for future reference, the exhaust components from the motor are headers, cats, y-pipe, mid-pipe, axle-back. Cat-back exhaust systems will include everything behind the cats (hence the term "cat-back"), and not all aftermarket exhaust systems will be designed to have a y-pipe or mid-pipe that is interchangeable with factory fitment parts.

With so many different exhausts in this thread

Somewhat difficult to determine, if your not as experienced. I am trying to figure out how to "quiet" down my exhaust. Just got a new G35x 05 and previous owner has an exhaust louder then my tastes. Any ideas?

Dont mean to hijack the thread, just thought this maybe the best thread to ask besides starting a new one.

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? If so put the stock one back on.

I don't have the stock one, it seems to be aftermarket according to previous owner, I guess I can try to find a stock one somewhere.

^Try your local craigslist. Or I'm sure there might be some members in your area that are more than happy to trade for their stock exhausts?

What is it btw?

Will the megan oe-rs catback work on a 05 G35X? What would I have to mod to get it to work? Thanks

The OE-RS is actually a Y-back so it will only replace the mid and axle back, and the answer is yes it will bolt up, the only thing I am not sure on is if you need the 03/04 hangers. If you want to replace the Y-pipe you have 2 options because you are an X, Megan's or M2's HR Y-Pipe.
