Tinting
I was planning on getting my windows tinted today and I was thinking 20% on the sides and on the back. Does anyone else have their tints like that and have you been pulled over by police? I live in San Francisco and I've heard any tint on the driver and passenger side windows are illegal, but I hear they don't really care in San Francisco. Anyone have any info they could share? Thanks.

Re: Tinting
I found a website that listed the tint laws in all 50 states. It says that you can have a 35 tint on the driver and front passenger windows, but no tint lower than 6 inches from the top of the front windshield. I have 32 all around (except windshield), and have never been pulled over or cited. 20 is a different story though. Even if it's not strictly enforced, it is one more reason for a police officer having a bad day to take it out on you. Just my two cents.

I live in SD and just drove up to SF this past weekend...this site has all the laws you need to know...I have the darkest tint all around on my coupe...I know I'll get stopped for it someday...but in the meantime...it looks sweet.

Re: Tinting
If you tint your forward windows be aware that you would be in violation of 26708(a)(2)CVC. I enforce this section regularly, in SF. With regard to the front windshield it is not simply "not lower than 6". 26708(B)(c)/(1) CVC reads "... transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the topmost portion of the
windshield if the following conditions apply:
(1) The bottom edge of the material is at least 29 inches above
the undepressed driver's seat when measured from a point 5 inches in front of the bottom of the backrest with the driver's seat in its rearmost and lowermost position with the vehicle on a level surface. Hope this helps.
