Accident Today...Could Have been Worse

I was returning from a small vacation today and was within 100 miles of home. I am going down I-40 in Asheville, NC. A pickuptruck entered the interstate and had a fiberglass bed cover on it. Just as he passed me, wind got under it and flipped it off the truck. It was coming straight at the passenger windshield side of my G, where my 79 year old Dad was sitting. I slammed on the brakes and steered to the left. Luckily it hit the right side windshield pillar instead of the windshield. It severly damaged the right quarter panel, tore off the mirror, damaged the front and rear passenger side doors. I figure about $5000-$7500 damage, but at least no-one was hurt. Almost made me sick though,as my car is a year and a half old and DID NOT have a single scratch on it. I'll post some pics as soon as my digital camera charges up.

Re: Accident Today...Could Have been Worse

My dad was pretty shaken up, as was I. The driver did stop and was very apologetic, but he was a little apprehensive of getting out of his vehicle at first. I guess he thought I was gonna go off on him. He was issued a citation for not having a secured load. I kinda felt sorry for the guy, it seemed like it upset him more than it did me. At least the only damage was to my G, which can be repaired. I'm just glad that he had insurance!!

I am MOST gald that you and your Dad are OK....It does bite the big one that you were hit, but thank God cars can be repaired or replaced. Please post pics as soon as you can. I take it you are from N.C.? There are some GREAT roads for unwinding the G up in the Asheville area. Did you get in any FUN driving before the accident? Just curious.

This is where it hit the windshield pillar and was deflected down.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune bro, but equally glad no-one was hurt to badly.
Considering what could have happened (!) , your G came away fairly unscathed. The shop will fix her up good as new.
G/L with the repairs.

Ditto here, glad you are both okay, bet it scared the hell out of our Dad, my Dad is around his age, and he had a deer jump across his hood one night in PA, sure scared him, glad he had the reflexes to stop in time! That damage sucks, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be, too bad it happened!

Re: Accident Today...Could Have been Worse

mstil35,
First I am glad you and your dad are okay. Give your dad a hug man. One of the greatest resource a man can go to is a good dad. My dad is no longer here and I wish I could I drive around with him in my G. Its 18 years since his death and still miss him terribly. My father used to drive me around in his 350 Camaro. Boy that thing could fly! You will have many cars in your life time but only one dad.
Respectfully,
Dknibb

So true man. My dad's gone too, but I would love to take him for a ride in my G if he were still around! Ah well, that's how it goes. Glad all are AOK. Peace.
