I *think* HIDs come with the premium pkg; my early 03 (doggy door) has them. Mine is (was?) also Sport. But then packages in Canada can be different than in the US.

Yes, HID was an option before 04.

^Awesome find. I know that'll save a lot of people.
While I don't personally have that problem (yet) I'll be on the lookout for anyone posting that they do so I can point them in the right direction.

While we're on the subject, how hard is it to get that piece out? My car is going to be in the shop for a while, and if it's not that hard to get out, I wouldn't mind sending it to you so you can take any measurements needed to make a metal one (unless you think that would be overkill since the plastic one is now available)

JimNC found it. Give the credit to him. Just want to make sure this gets around as plenty of people are in need

The link has instructions on how to remove it. Looks very easy to me.

Like you said though, may not be worth making a metal one now that this is an option.

Oh yeah. I didn't look at the instructions, but that does look very easy.
So how about it Mustang? Is it worth it to you to fab a metal one?

I don't see how it would be worth it - the company that sells these gears warrants them 'forever'. I'd imagine the one-off cost of making a metal gear like that would run way more than $65, but not like I have any experience with that.

Oh, I didn't realize they had a lifetime warranty.

Connecting iphone 3G

Hello...I just brought my 2006 G35 Infiniti Sedan yesterday and did not note an AUX connection for my iphone. I have a Bose stereo system with a 6 CD changer in place. Is there a way to connect my iphone so I can play my music thru the car stereo. I am newly divorced and not familiar with electronic equipment at all. Spouse usually took care of everything mechanical. Can anyone help a damsel in distress?

Well, if it's lifetime warranty, then no. But if you really think about it...if it strips out 8 years from now, and that company is no longer around...you are still SOL right?

I wonder if there is a reason why the gears aren't metal? There might be a legit engineering reason, but since i haven't popped that cover off, i can't really speculate on it. Could be cost, but to be honest, a bar of 400-series SS (or even plain steel) can be had for nearly the same cost as a bar of nylon, or delrin, or PVDF or any other plastic that the gear is made out of. It's prob Nylon or Delrin though, but who knows. I realize machning costs will be higher. That's a legit reason in itself.

I have a CNC lathe here, so if i were to buy a gear, i would duplicate it in metal myself....prob 400-series stainless.

So, you want me to send you mine for measuring or not?

I'll speculate on it. Maybe it's an engineered breaking point. The companies that make residential garage door openers do this. Everything it metal, except for a worm/crown gear set that are nylon. The actual electric motor inside the unit has a lifetime warranty, yet I have NEVER had to replace one or even heard of anyone replacing one. But we replace those gears almost every day, sometimes 2-3 in a day. In more densely populated areas like around Atlanta, there are companies that ONLY do gear kits, all day every day.

Sounds very legit.

You don't have to send me your gear. I'm gonna order one when i get around to it and i can make a .dwg from that. Perhaps you are right and i should leave it plastic for that reason.

^I guess it would kinda depend on if the worm gear on the motor is metal. If it's not, then making the gear out of metal might be a bad idea because if it had any sharp corners at all, they would eat up a nylon worm gear. But if it is, I don't see any reason why the gear shouldn't be metal. Who cares if it's an engineered wear/break point. You should have the sense not to jamb your seat and keep forcing the button anyway.
