While I don't personally have that problem (yet) I'll be on the lookout for anyone posting that they do so I can point them in the right direction.
While we're on the subject, how hard is it to get that piece out? My car is going to be in the shop for a while, and if it's not that hard to get out, I wouldn't mind sending it to you so you can take any measurements needed to make a metal one (unless you think that would be overkill since the plastic one is now available)

^Awesome find. I know that'll save a lot of people.

Like you said though, may not be worth making a metal one now that this is an option.

Connecting iphone 3G
Hello...I just brought my 2006 G35 Infiniti Sedan yesterday and did not note an AUX connection for my iphone. I have a Bose stereo system with a 6 CD changer in place. Is there a way to connect my iphone so I can play my music thru the car stereo. I am newly divorced and not familiar with electronic equipment at all. Spouse usually took care of everything mechanical. Can anyone help a damsel in distress?

I wonder if there is a reason why the gears aren't metal? There might be a legit engineering reason, but since i haven't popped that cover off, i can't really speculate on it. Could be cost, but to be honest, a bar of 400-series SS (or even plain steel) can be had for nearly the same cost as a bar of nylon, or delrin, or PVDF or any other plastic that the gear is made out of. It's prob Nylon or Delrin though, but who knows. I realize machning costs will be higher. That's a legit reason in itself.
I have a CNC lathe here, so if i were to buy a gear, i would duplicate it in metal myself....prob 400-series stainless.

^I guess it would kinda depend on if the worm gear on the motor is metal. If it's not, then making the gear out of metal might be a bad idea because if it had any sharp corners at all, they would eat up a nylon worm gear. But if it is, I don't see any reason why the gear shouldn't be metal. Who cares if it's an engineered wear/break point. You should have the sense not to jamb your seat and keep forcing the button anyway.
