Having fun with an M5 ...

I left extra early this morning (6:25 am) to get work this morning. Traffic is cool, I take the Cross County East and which merges into the Saw Mill Pkwy South. For those who have driven this route right before to get on the Saw Mill is a wicked 2 lane curve.

Well everybody else is braking and I just smile & cruise through the turn and in my mirror I see Beige M5 approaching quickly. Right away i can see he is conscienscous driver. I merge on to the Saw Mill in 3rd gear doing 50, but there is Taurus who is 10 mph below the speed limit so I am waiting for a window to change lanes and get to crusing speed. I look in my rear view and the M5 is in similar situation. I look back again in my rearview mirror and he goes for it! Man that car just started STEPPIN!! I mean pure Torque and HP! He did a sweet one lane manevuer and the car just did exactly what is was told to do, like a obedient dog. No body sway the car looked as if it was all muscle no flab! Those big tires just gripped the road and went about business as usual.

Well I finally was able to merge and I gave pursuit really just to admire one of my favorite cars. I caught up to the guy, both of us doing about 85 mph he looked over, I looked over and he gave a nod and I reciprocated. He continued left and I exited right to the Major Deegan.

Got to give it to the guy, He had the cool sunglasses, cool haircut and his car was gleaming. During that mutual nod he checked out my G and saw it was gleaming too.

Men appreciate CLEAN Automobiles!!!.
We weren't racing it was enjoyable maneveuring politely thru traffic.

Heres to 2 fine automobiles!

Thanks for not calling it a "kill." (Which we know would not be possible.) I rather hear theses kind of stories, than post about killing Quest minivans, Mustangs, EVO, etc. I think most of us G owners would love to have an M5. It's pretty close to being the perfect four door car.

Re: Having fun with an M5 ...

Nice read... Had some fun with an M3 this weekend, the guy was driving hard and since I'd never really tried to race one, I decided to see how far he'd leave me behind. I was quite surprised at how well the G did, naturally I couldn't close the gap while he accelerated, but it wasn't like he was putting a whole lot of distance between us. I felt pretty good about saving the $20K by getting the G.

Then a friend dropped by with his modded 944 turbo... what a beast... especially for a 15 year old car!

My wife has an M5 and yeah our cars wouldn't stand a chance at it. Its really a great car to drive, real smooth and the power is is instantaneous, with the traction control off the car can get really loose in 3rd gear, our car a little more fun to drive, it feels a little more sporty then the M5.

WHHHHAAAATTT! Your wife has an M5?!!! I have never seen a woman drive one. Of course, I am not saying its impossible. But you must have some wife, not many women drive or buy M3s or M5s. Usually you'll see a women driving a 745, but you can pretty safely assume she is driving her husbands car. Okay i am over my astonishment now...

I just finished reading a book "The Emperor of Ocean Park' the wife, who is an go getting powerhouse attorney has a M5. I was just as surprised.

I guess your one guy is doesn't mind borrowing the wife's car.

Awesome, these are the stories I like to hear, not stupid public road racing stories with 16 year olds at the wheel.

Check out the new E60 M5 - 500bhp V10 with a redline at 9,000rpm. The car looks stunning:

I can't help but prefer the pre-Chris Bangle designs. I don't like the eyebrows, the rear is attrocious, and the lower rear valence looks screwed up as well (as compared to the prior model.) But you can't argue with 500hp.

Racerx - I totally agree with that statement. 500hp would make anything look good!!!!!!!!!!! Hell, I would even buy a Yugo if it had 500hp!! LOL

Re: Having fun with an M5 ...

Speaking of the Sawmill, I take that road ALL the time. It is one of the better driver's roads in our area. One of the nice features are the long stretches with no shoulders that make almost any kind of enforcement impossible, (that is unless you are stupid enough to blow by a cruising cop car.)

Two weeks ago I had a run northbound with a C2; what a blast. I kept cursing the fact that I still had my Q rated snows on the car, as I was way over their speed rating a couple of times. The Porsche put a couple of hundred feet on me in the really twisty curves north of Elmsford, (I was starting to get very scared about the heat load I was putting on the snows by that point, as we had been running hard for more than 10 miles and I just didn't feel comfortable cornering hard with them), but I gathered him back in right after the curves. The G can definately stay respectably close to a C2 in real world conditions. It took the C2 more than 10 miles to get by me. It's one thing to have a faster car, but a marginally faster car is not going to be able to pass off-line. While I made no effort to block his passing, I still took the preferred lines. With all the wierd, sometimes off-camber, turns on the Sawmill, being in the correct lane can make a huge difference. The C2 didn't have the margin untill I backed off. FUN! I am sure there is now one Porshce owner with a healthy new respect for the G35.....he'll probably be forced to trade up to a turbo to avoid future embarassment.
