Re: THE DAY HAS COME!!!

That's a point Randy: 4k in top gear is a lot faster than 70. I don't have a 6M/T but I would hazzard a guess that you could be in 5th at that speed and not go over 4k! Anyone?
I think the point of the break-in schedule is to not do steady high speed 'cruizing' or venture (too far) above 4k for too long anyway. Similarly don't 'granny' it for fear of hurting something. To my mind and I think what 2003blueG35 said was to drive it, just don't abuse it: The odd venture to the upper limits of the engine momentarily is ok and does it good.

The manual doesn't say anything about limiting speed to 70mph. Just don't hold a constant speed for any given time (easy to do if you don't use the cruise control).

I'd say that US Highway speed limits (and speed just a touch higher) are perfectly fine during break-in. Keep it to two-digit speed limits and you should be fine. My car got plenty of 75-80mph time during the break-in.

I think BMW's manual suggests not going over 100mph when breaking in their cars. However, we don't have access to the Autobahn here, so I wouldn't worry about hurting the engine at freeway speeds. Now, if you go faster than that, engine-breakin won't be your biggest problem.

Re: THE DAY HAS COME!!!

My big problem is I do a 100 mile commute sometimes with the G, and I do 60 to 75 all the way. I try to vary the speed. I think I will use my Chevy Prism (boring) for my long commute until I get 1200 miles on it.

Actually, that long commute is a great way to get the first 1200mi on your G, IMO. Just don't use the cruise control until you pass 1200.
