Stiff clutch?

I test drove a 6MT sedan this weekend and the only thing that I didn't like was the force required on the clutch. It reminded me of my '85 Mustang GT, which was a real workout to drive in stop-n-go rush hour traffic. The car I was driving had under 20 miles on it, so I was wondering if the stiff clutch was typical of the G35 or could it have been because it was brand new? I'm comparing it to the RX-8 and IS300 both of which had nice light clutches. Other than that the car was a blast to drive.

Re: Stiff clutch?

Bumping this up. Any 6MT drivers have opinions on the feel of the clutch after a few thousand miles?

Re: Stiff clutch?

After 8 years of driving a '96 Chevy 1500 4X4 5 speed, my 6MT clutch feels light as a feather. It all depends on what you are accustom to driving I guess.

Re: Stiff clutch?

yeah, first time I drove, I felt like I was gonna put a hole through the floor the damn thing was so heavy, now after 15k miles, I don't really notice it anymore, of course it's not light and feathery like the TSX or TL but you can live with it...

Re: Stiff clutch?

I've had my 6MT replaced twice now. Each time the clutch has felt different. Thi stime it is much heavier. I like it but it will take a little getting use to.

Re: Stiff clutch?

Ya know I came from years of owning MT honda's to this car, and yes it's heavier than my previous cars. But, it's simply been a non issue that I adapted to without any real thought. I would not give up this cars interior room, avaliable torque and a world of 350Z derived mods for a heavier clutch.

Re: Stiff clutch?

The clutch on my 2004 was definitely rather heavy for the first 2k miles or so. I'm at around 5k, and it seems to have loosened up a bit, but still not as light as other cars I have driven. You'll get used to it after a while.

Re: Stiff clutch?

The clutch on my 2004 G35 6MT was quite heavy compared to my previous car.

I adjusted the clutch pedal height lowering it down to the height of the brake pedal and now the clutch feels much lighter. Much easier to shift now, I get smoother takeoffs, and the car just feels faster off the line.
