03 Sedan AT Fluid Check ?
check in P.
how would you add only 1 quart at a time after a full drain???
I have 3.5 quarts in now, I might add a bit more, BUT I am inbetween the lower two notches marked HOT. I do not know what the checked portion above that indicates???
I also have left the dipstick in place and not gone back to the cap. Thoughts?

Oh I'm sorry. I misunderstood.
If you've just done a drain, you should carefully measure how much you took out and put the same amount back in, then fine tune from there.
If it's low on the dipstick, add no more than a pint at a time (1 cup would really be better)

Sorry to resurrect old thread but I just got back in the groove of car maintenance after a couple of rough years doing everything but.
Dealer told me the car needs a trans fluid change ('03 Sedan AT, prior to serial 09999). So I go to check it myself, no stick of course. If this part mentioned in this thread is the one I need, then that's great. But the service manual notes this special tool which Kent-Moore lists on their site as being nearly $500!!

OP I see you ordered the $10 stick; did you do your own trans and can you share some results?

I actually have a question about where the level should be on the dipstick, after almosts 2 years of wondering if my transmission fluid was low and just never checking, I checked it cold yesterday and the fluid is way above the checkered area on the dipstick.. where is the fluid level supposed to be? I know its supposed to be warmed to a specific temp, when measuring the fluid level, would that make a difference as to why it appears to be filled high?
geew1z, I have the same question as you and just started a thread on it:

Yes I would have preferred to wait till the '04 model year due to first-year jitters. But my '91 Maxima had just about given up the ghost and wife didn't feel safe driving it any more. I hope I can get the G to 12 years and triple-digit miles. So far so good; it's been fairly trouble-free.
Got a short question which is a little OT:
Is it ok to put Matic-S where a Matic-J fluid is recommended?
Also can the matic S be used as a power steering fluid in the G35?
thanks.

Speaking of Matic-S and Matic-J, has anyone in the zones where O'Reilly operates used their ATF as a low-cost substitute? It's called Universal or something, label on back says good for Matic J, S and K. Around $5/qt.
