Do you find the engine sounds too loud?

I came from driving a 12 yr manual Maximum SE, have my G35s AT for 2 months at 1700mi now and still can not get used to the sound of the engine during warm up or acceleration. o/c, I never owned a car with 260hp, so my question is : Do all 250+hp engines sound so loud as G35?
sometime I wonder why VQ35 is not as quite as typical Japanese engines? any answer?

The engine sound, to me, is a very pleasant "feature" of the G35. My previous car was a 2002 Maxima 6-speed w/ 255HP. Unlike the G, it was quiet and subtle... even under heavy acceleration. With the G, I absolutely LOVE the intake growl under WOT and wouldn't want a sport sedan any other way.

I rather enjoy the growl of the VQ35 in the 4-6000 rpm range. The engine doesn't sound like it's straining at all, it sounds quite happy. On the other hand, I'm driving the wifemobile this week, a 98 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 I6. Above about 3500rpm, the poor thing sounds like it's wheezing and doing the best it can just to keep the pistons inside the block.

I have to agree, I love that intake growl But I don't really notice that mine sounds terribly different before it's warmed up then when its been running for a while... are you noticing a big difference, and is that what's annoying you??

The car is suppose to have a throaty sound. Nissan wanted that. They benchmarked all kinds of cars to get the right sound...thats for the Z but it carries over to our car. They used a 360 Modena-you know its got to be good. I want more growl. I getting straight pipes damn it!!!!!....whoa..I got carried away, sorry. I really like the sound;>

i'd guess its supposed to sound loud. adds to the sporty driving experience. gives the driver a sensation that there is power under the hood.

drive an I35 and you will see the difference. after owning a G, driving the I is like steering a boat that is quieter and has no sport feel to it whatsoever.

I like the throaty growl. When my salesperson told me to "hit it" during the test drive, and downshifted with the manumatic, the roar from the engine is what partly sold me on the car.

IQ9:

They tuned the Z to sound like the Modena? That's pretty cool. Where'd you read the article?

I read somewhere that they can now hook up a box to the exhaust of virually any car. A computer selectively remixes certain parts of the exhaust noise to yield the exact sound of any car in it's data base coming out of the tail pipe. Now that would be cool!

I got the info at of C&D and the Z book. My dad got some history of the Z car book when he bought his. They were selling it in the parts department for $124.99. It gives all the info on the new car and its heritage.
