Does 04 6MT Sedan have LSD?
Does 04 6MT Sedan have LSD?
Per this thread:
https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...age=&view=&sb=
I was under the assumption it did not, just VDC which to me is borderline worthless.
Can someone please verify the accuracy?

Yes, all 04 6MT Sedans come with a Viscous type LSD from the factory. If you wanted to you could swap that out with a number of aftermarket Clutch type LSD's like Nismo, Kaaz, Cusco to name a few. Currently, several members are trying to get Quaife to make a Torsen type LSD as well for our application.

Re: Does 04 6MT Sedan have LSD?
Wow, this is the best news of the year, seriously, I thought all we had was that lame eletronic VDC; to hear we have a mechanical LSD is great.
I always wondered cause it seems like when I dump my clutch from 2000-2500 I get a little of wheel chirp but it hooks fast and ferociously.
Finally, when VDC is set to 'Off' is it really completely off? I know on the Benz's it never really shuts off, but on the G does it. When I shut the VDC off I should have no traction/stability controlling devices except the viscous mechanical LSD?

From what I know, when the VDC is off, its never really off unless you pull the fuse. Pulling the fues for the VDC, means you also pull the fuse for the brake lights and the ABS system too...
We need a workaround for this though... I would happily purchase that feature... I would love to know how much drift I can get with my G...

I notice when it's off I can get some pretty decent sideways action. I'm no drift-racer so I don't try and go all out, but a little swing around a turn is plenty for me, and with VDC off I get that with no problem.

Yup, a viscous type lsd starts limiting slip after traction is lost. A more performance oriented clutch type or torsen type lsd will start transferring power to the other wheel with more traction BEFORE slippage occurs.

Where can I get the LSD that is currently being produced by NISMO or Cusco, and what is the cost for parts and labor?

One place that sells the Nismo...

Another that sells the Nismo, Cusco, and Kaaz...

All these LSD's above will generally cost around 900-1000 and labor I'm guessing will probably be another 200-300 as they have to drop your stock diff and put in the new one. People with auto's would have to buy extra stock parts that are allready on the 6MT's in order to fit up the new diff. Be aware that clutch type diffs probably perform the best but will make the most noise during operation.

Are you sure that's right? I know they come with an LSD but I thought it was just an electronic lock diff, not a fancy viscous LSD

Re: Does 04 6MT Sedan have LSD?
I drive with mine off all the time. Except when roads are wet. All I know is that if I raise the RPM to 4000 and pop the clutch is leaves 2 tread marks behind all the way through first gear. Occasionally I get that annoying wheel bounce.
Re: Does 04 6MT Sedan have LSD?
I doubt you're driving with it off.
If you have the VLSD, it's mechanical, and the only way to drive with it off would be to replace your differential with a regular open diff.
If not, the Brake LSD portion of the VDC system does not turn off when you turn off VDC. This is the one piece of the system that remains active. To shut it down completely, you'd have to pull your ABS fuse, which I would not recommend.

Yes, I am 100% sure that is right. Again all 04 6MT sedans have a rear Viscous Limited Slip Differential. I see you have an auto so you don't have one. But you could have one (or an aftermarket one) swapped in if you wanted to with the purchase of extra stock parts as well such as the ring and pinion gear. VLSD's aren't all that fancy in comparison. Viscous goo is used as a medium to limit slip between the two tires. Much better than an open diff for sure. More fancier versions of LSD's are clutch types and torsen types. Clutch types uses a series of plates and clutches while torsen types uses gears. This technology is more fancy and yet more expensive. Hopefully Quaife comes out with a LSD soon.
