Oh ya, and Mythbusters:

Season 5, 2006: Episode 53
http://kwc.org/mythbusters/2006/05/e..._trousers.html

Great Gas Conspiracy
Myth: Automakers and fuel suppliers are in collusion to keep us dependent on expensive gasoline and inefficient cars. There are many devices that one can use to cut your fuel consumption.

They got a carbureted car and a fuel-injected car to test several types of devices. The cars were placed on a dynamometer, which allows the car to drive without moving anywhere.

Test devices and additives:

Fuel line magnets: working on the "principles of hydrodynamics," they are supposed to align the molecules for more efficient consumption.

Acetone additive: supposed to make gasoline burn more efficiently
300mpg 'super' carburetor

Hydrogen fuel cell generator: flammable hydrogen gas produced by electrolysis. Adam labeled it "Gasbuster: Stickin' it to the Man"
They tested each car on the dynamometer at 35mph and 55mph with each 'device.'

Carburetor car:
* Baseline: 17mpg at 35mph and 25mpg at 55mph
* Magnets: exactly the same as baseline busted
* Acetone: 16.7mpg at 35mph and 24mpg at 55mph busted
* Super carb: much worse than baseline, 12mpg at 35mph and 17.7mpg at 55mph busted

Fuel-injected car
* Baseline: 19mpg at 35mph and 27mpg at 55mph
* Magnets: 18mpg at 35mph and 26mpg at 55mph busted
* Acetone: 18mpg at 35mph and 26mpg at 55mph busted

Do these magnets work with water fuel systems? Calling it HH0 to try to make it sound exotic

Shouldn't the combination of magnets and water improve the G35 to 40mpg?

You forgot the secret magic ingredient to improving fuel mileage....fairy dust. JOKER is experimenting as we speak.

Hypothetically speaking, assume it worked. But, as a consequence, the G35 ran with all the performance of an out of tune clunker, would people want to drive it?

Most of these systems seem to advertise such dramatic improvements, but don't guarantee them. So, you put it in your G35. Then, for the first week, you drive real cautious, and you get a 2-3 mpg improvement. Which, in a week, can be explained because you are driving with fuel economy in mind, and variations in how much you fill the tank can do that in a short distance.

With my experience with my G35, to make it a valid test (at least for highway mileage), I would want to at least see 35mpg over a valid distance, such as a cross country jaunt. Since there is no way the G35 will get 35mpg on it's own over 3-4000 miles, if it got it over that distance, continued to perform the same, and still passed emissions and other diagnostics after that amount of time, I would give it more credence. But no one ever seems to do an independent test like this.

Another thought. Why even bother trying to save gas like this. I see these annoying commercials all the time (no longe r pointing you to some fox website) promising up to well over $100K a year from your HOME, even part time. But no guarantees. Even if it was only an extra $60K a year you brought in, working part time, that would allow you go get a new G35 every year, pay for all your fuel, and allow you the enjoyment of avoiding the trade in hassle by giving it away at the end of the year.

How does this at all apply to this thread? Just more off topic discussion about bull **** infomercials that end up lining someone else pockets.

Well, I just saw an ad on TV for Auto Cerm. Apparently add it to your oil, and smooths out imperfections. Guess that, in addition to the magnet and water, should get the G up to 50mpg.

Just think, Infiniti could, for under $200 in parts, get the G to exceed even the most strict planned CAFE requirements years early.

I don't think you realize that these products don't work. You could spend $1000 and still not achieve 50mpg. Just because its on the tv doesnt make it true.

Read previous post further up the thread. Fool and his money, and all that

The best case for these things is that it doesn't actually do any damage to your car.

There are several other ways that fuel economy can be improved. Careful acceralation. Let the Toyota Echo zoom past you. Combine trips so the car isn't driven cold too as much. Drive slower.

The best gas saving device is a BRICK, the installation is easy, Just stick under your gas paddle

If i made a 100 grand working part time..from home....shet, I'd go full-time!
+1 on this being crap.....but I know what works...these nanochip adhesive units that make your car go faster by just applying them to your car's exterior...combine that with the MPG gains from this stuff, you got a Ferrari fast car, with Prius MPG at an infiniti price

Get your self a needle (simple plain old needle. Not the one with a plastic ball on the back but simple straight metal needle)
Tall paper cut

And a magnet.

I'll be back.

Never came back
