Sedan 6MT owners Any regrets
Re: Sedan 6MT owners Any regrets
Hi,
None from me, I'm still burning in the engine but man can this guy fly and the shifting is tight. I'm still getting used to the 6mt, I am a 5mt driver. I am going to take the car on a Nevada road trip in April. I will go up Highway 93 to Highway 50 then down Highway 95. Should be able to give a very detailed report then. I like any manual transmission over a automatic, so I am biased.

I guess my experience can best be described as: What back seat??? The MT really adds a huge feeling of control and force to the G's already powerful engine. The standard sport package is very nice and the close ratio 6 speed feels good in a sedan. The short throw shift and equally short throw clutch rounds off a very nice over all package. No regrets here

Only got 172 miles on the car so far. So have not really had a chance to open her up yet. So far the only two negative things I can say about the 6MT is the shifter vibrates more then it should (in my opinion), and the clutch is pretty heavy, if your at a long red light, you will want to put it in neutral and rest your leg. Neither one of these problems are major. Although I could see the clutch being bothersome if your always driving in traffic
Other then those two things I love it. I have no regreats buying it.

Re: Sedan 6MT owners Any regrets
I test drove one today. I found the force needed to depress the clutch to be quite high. I am used to a honda which I hear is the opposite. I actually felt the soul of my shoe bending a bit when my foot was not positioned properly. But I seemed to get used to this after driving for about 6 miles. So I am guessing it won't be a problem.
Also, the brakes did not seem to be as grabby as the sedan 5at I drove a while back. Did anyone else notice the brakes less grabby then the auto cars.
Thanks for your responses

My 5A/T Coupe brakes aren't as grabby as the 5A/T Sedan brakes I traded. Actually the Sedan's 'grabby' brakes kinda grow on you, and now I miss them.
Good luck with your new purchase.

Yeh once you get used to them, they're really quite effective. Then driving something else is hard to readjust to.

I think the brakes are a difference between the 2003 and 2003.5, rather than the A/T and M/T. When did you test drive last? Before October/November?

That's interesting...I drove the Z and thought the clutch had a nice strong feel to it. It was a little heavier than some but it was no mustang! I often don't like really light clutches. They allow you to disengage them too fast and you get clunk from them. For the power I think its a nice feel.
Re: Sedan 6MT owners Any regrets
yeah.. it's hard to drive anything else after you've driven the G.. i was driving a sunfire.. the brakes sucked and were a chore to press down.. typical domestic feel.. i was pushing that car expecting to get the same response that i would get from the G, forgetting this is a very different car.. so i'd have to slam on the accelerator to even get close to the response i get from gently tapping the accelerator on the G... can't wait to get my car back... but after having to deal with this car, it'll take me a while to get use to the G again.. but you better believe i'll put in the required time to do so... heh..

Would you recomend the G 6mt for a first time manual driver? I have to confess that I never learned to drive a stick. I plan on getting a rent-a-wreck and learn for a few weeks. I don't drive very often in the DC rush hour traffic, so that is a will make things easier. Suggestions, comments?

Bottom Line:
If you like to street race and want to get the maximum peformance out of this car, get the 6MT. Otherwise stick with the Automatic.

I don't street race anymore...too many unsafe win at all costs drivers around here lately, but I do see myself as a performance driver. I would be driving mainly for the pleasure of it. Spanking a few hinies, after proper breakin and practice, along the way would just be icing on the cake.

I'm kind of like you, I don't care for street racing because of the danger involed to me and other people. But every once in awhile on a empty street if a BMW or Acura pulls up to me.... nuff said
I just like being able to squeeze all the performace out of the car when I want it. Thats pretty much why I got the 6MT. Even tho the automatics have the manual shifting, its still not even close to having the 6MT. One thing I didn't like about the automatic manual was the delay you have between the time you shift and the time the car acutally changes gears. seems like a good second to me.
