so i think i found my new car

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...eadExists=true

I just came back from the dealership. The color combo isn't exactly what i wanted but it will do since i do plan on getting coupe seats that are black and maybe get new black carpet while i have the seats out. But still a maybe with that.

They have new no name tires on there. I saw 3 of the rims and non has any serious rash they were clean i didn't see the drivers front. Tires look to have 90% but cheapo no names on them. The front bumper on the pass side looks like they hit maybe a trailer hitch or something in that terms. its like a 1.5inch x 1.5 inch crack/dent in the front bumper. One ding on the pass side. Overall a couple of scuff marks on the rear bumper and front bumper but nothing outrageous for a car that would be city driven. inside looks a lot cleaner then the other g35x i've seen before. the rears are very near mint and so are the front. car didn't have floor mats. The car drove very nicely.

Price they were asking $21k on the sticker. I laughed at first and then showed them the print out. They said ok $17+ TTL, I made the mistake about saying 16k OTD, when i should of said 15k. In my head i wanted to say 15k but something made me say 16k. The guy took it to used car manager, 20 mins later he came with back best he can do was knock off 1k off the asking.

So i got $17,200 OTD price. I told them i'll sleep on it and let them know. I was trying to get maybe a new bumper and 17k OTD. I'm thinking of coming back with 16.5OTD offer

so far i've done the kbb/ nada/ edmunds and everything. kbb puts the car at 16.5 private party and everything else shows 20k

What do you guy think about this. Also wondering if it still has warranty on it. its under the 60k for sure but not sure about the in service date of the 5years.

i've been looking around in chicagoland area for 2 months now. everything i've found was either been in a accident or they wanted 18+ before taxes. this one looks like nothing has been replaced. I didn't get a chance to look under the hood.

I'm preparing my final offer for them tomorrow or Saturday.

I think it goes $16,500 OTD with a vanity plate, steal me floor mats from the 05/06 models and get me 3 keys programed( not sure how many keys they have), and fix the bumper. *** i think the bumper will not get fixed, and if already have 2 keys, i don't think they 3rd key will be made but i think its worth a shot.

the car looks good, thats not the problem. i'm more concerned about the price. ideally i wanted to get a car 16k OTD but i've came across some many damaged ones and trashed ones this one seems pretty decent. With the kbb, nada and edmunds being all over the page i'm not exactly sure how much is too much. this car is lower then what the FS section normally has up.

i PMed the guy. but i'm probaly going to make a move on this morrow or saturday.

The X looks like not a bad deal. I would also check the CD changer and make sure there are no CD errors with it (i.e. insert CD and see if it plays OK). For the '03-'04 sedans, the CD changer error is a common issue. I had that when I bought my car two years ago and got that fixed while under basic warranty (4 yr/60K miles).

A few other things to be aware of prior to purchase of the G:

- Brake pad life. The OEM pads on the G are known to go through a short lifespan. Infiniti is aware of that and offers a free replacement of the brake pads for any G at 3 yrs or 36K miles whichever comes first.
- Compression rods (front). The G sedan (not sure about the coupe) may get a clunking noise up front when going over bumps and dips on the roads. This is typically attributed to the poor build of the compression rods. Currently there is no permanent fix known other than replacing them with OEM parts.
- Fuel filler hose recall. As far as I know, this is the only known recall distributed for all '03-'04 G35 sedans and coupes. Run the VIN at the dealer and see if that recall was done for the X.

this type of info is exactly what i'm looking for.

the CD changer, well as long as 1 disc works its good enough. I do plan on going DD so that would solve that, i also do plan on lowering the car with springs and struts, so that problem can be addressed.

pad life i read about as well, i didn't think it was that common but hawks pads and blanks are something i'll be installing when time comes. Its only 150$ in parts to me as i'm a DIY guy.

Gotta look into the recall.

don't buy it if the interior colors aren't what you're looking for... I wouldn't settle for something you're not happy with. There are a billion Xs on the used market so you should be able to find what you want.

too bad you are too far away. I'd offer to swap interiors with ya. I didn't want black.

I don't know what taxes and fees are for you, but $17k OTD sounds good. I'd guess the true trade-in value (auction value) on that car right now is probably in the $14k-$14.5 range (my subscription to Galves ran out, unfortunately). So if your buy price is $16k, then that's a fair deal. HOWEVER, I would say all that if it didn't have damage. I don't know what this bumper looks like, but that should be a deduct. If they'll fix it to your satisfaction, then I think its a done deal at that $17k OTD price.

By the way, for the interior, I've decided to get some custom work done as soon as I have the money to burn. suede inserts in the seats and door panels and get the headliner redone. That will cure my aversion to the black interior ... and actually look damned good, I think, so probably better off I wound up with black. soooo... just saying making it custom to your liking is something to consider if you buy this one.

17k for a mint used exterior would be a good deal....hundreds here and hundreds there will add up. See if you can get em to fix it to the fullest, I'm sure they have hookups.

Glad to hear that you're a DIY'er and you're knowledgeable of quality aftermarket parts for our cars. If you're interested in learning more DIY projects for the G, I highly recommend reading up (and watching) the DIY videos our fellow forum member (bythabay) has made (follow the link below)
