Bad Gas Mileage in my G

When I first got my G in December, I was getting freat gas mileage. Normally around 17-19 MPG in the city. Here in the last month or so, my mileage has gone to $hit. I'm averaging around 10-12 MPG. I even took out my Blitz intake and my Stillen Exaust to bring the car back to factory, but my mileage is still real bad. With the price of premium gas around here at $1.85 - $1.90 a gallon, this really isn't good at all. A tank is only getting me about 170 miles.

Now, I do have a tendancy to drive the car a little hard. I really can't help myself once I get behind the wheel, but I always have driven it hard. I'll be bringing the G into Infiniti on Saturday to let them check it out, but I wanted to know from everyone here, what kind of gas mileage are you getting? Has anyone else had the same problem I'm having?

Thanks!

Rez

Re: Bad Gas Mileage in my G

I'm getting better than 10-12, WOW that's bad dude. Either you're driving hard and having lots of fun or there is an issue with the engine.
Only way to really tell with mileage is to go on a 100 - 200 mile trip (fill b4 and after). At steady 60 to 70 mph you should easily knock off 25 mpg's if you can avoid the fun pedal and stick to the cruise, and if the engine's AOK.
Let us know how you do..

Re: Bad Gas Mileage in my G

I have turned 8K on my G and have gotten no worse than 18 while really pounding on it. I average 23 to 24 in stop and go commute traffic (40 mi each way). Long freeway (300 mi one way) I got 25 at 80mph down I5 in california. Sounds very odd to only get 10-12, but I also recommend a 200 mile freeway trip using cruise control at a reasonable freeway speed, say no more than 70-75-

Throw in some fuel injector cleaner and take a long drive. It should help clean the system out and improve the mileage. If that doesn't help the dealer may need to see if something failed. Injector or dirty fuel filter/pump. They will just power flush the system and charge the hell out of you. Hope the can of injector cleaner works.

Re: Bad Gas Mileage in my G

Weekend driving which is mostly city for me, I get 17.5 - 19, during the week which is 80% highway, 20 - 22. Got 23.1 mpg on a tank once... 402.2 miles, 17.4 gallons. This was when I was still babying the G at 1K on the odometer.

Yeah... nothing like having someone stick something up your tail to find out if you're rich..

Doubt that procedure will leave me feeling better

Reminds me of the commercial where they're rushing the guy into what looks like an emergency surgical procedure saying, "He has money coming out the wazzuu!" while looking at his 'backside'.

Strange. That's twice now that I've responded to a post, and my response has mysteriously disappeared.

What I posted last night was:

I got 14-15mpg for the first couple of tanks. Now I'm at a little over 2200 miles, and I'm getting 17 city / 24 highway.

Never mind... it was in a different topic on the same subject. Guess I need another cup of coffee this morning....
Edited by ryoken on 03/14/03 09:04 AM.

Re: Bad Gas Mileage in my G

In the mean time to feel better just convert miles into kilometers- 12 mpg is 19.308 km per gallon...see doesn't that feel better?

(conversion is 1mi=1.609 km)

Re: Bad Gas Mileage in my G

Yeah, but to do it right, you have to convert to Liters/100km, I think.. which is a reversed scale.
