on the right side of the trunk (passenger side where fuel door is) you take out the interior sound deadening pannel. be careful not to rip it. there are 4 clips that you can take out with a clip remover or a flat screwdriver. then you kinda just take the piece. wiggle it out its in there good. it has flanges connected to the other pannels and the carpet. once its out just push it to the side and reach in and feel for the motor. there's a lil piece sticking out with a groove, just pull that back and it opens!

eh not really dirty. i just jumped in the trunk and got to work. the pannels are big and sturdy so its a pain to put places. it takes a lil while to put back together to line up the holes for the clips. it should take 10 minutes. its quick and easy. while you're at it tie a string to the back of it and tape it on then run the string into the trunk around the pannel and tie the other end to the top of the trunk area so that if it does stick again you can pull the string and open it. if you want to get ambitious take it out and run a 9v battery to the terminals to see if it works and shoot it with some grease to see if it works cause mine is moody. to take it out you unscrew the plastic ring in the fuel door area then push in a clip and pull the motor out. good luck and have fun!

its a common problem with nissans/infinitis. we get a few a week at my place. if the cust insists on replacing, we charge 3/10ths which is about 28$ to replaced plus the cost of part. but if im dealing with a good customer, you can actually just undo the clip, pull back the panel and squeeze your arm in there to unplug the actuator. the door will still function as always but will not able to be locked. not a big issue in my eyes unless gas theft or tampering is common in your area. even then, the door can still be opened with minimal force and damage

The first "mod" I made to the car (day 1) was unplug the unit. Most would consider this insane, but after >2 years with the car, never had a problem of stolen gas or those who really like me throwing sand and sugar in the tank! My car spends most days in an urban, extremely low income, high crime setting (it sleeps in a garage at night).
