So my fuel door actuator died

I went to get gas on Saturday with my tank damn near empty and my fuel door wouldnt open. When I first got the car I thought it was a cheap cost saving technique to have no lock on the lid but now I know there is a solenoid in there that unlocks the fuel door along with your doors. I went to my shop and had them keep it permanently open until I can replace it. Is that covered under warranty at all? If not, how much is the part?

it would be covered under the bumper-to-bumper warranty, which you're out of most likely.

I tried searching online for the part and could not find it. I think its Part # 78850-AM800 but can't say for certain. Is the dealer the only place I can get this?

Are you sure it went dead. Mine has gotten too dirty and needed cleaned before.

If it is dead, call or PM Riverside Infiniti, they can get you a price and part number. The're great guys over there!

I went back to the shop where I got my side sills and front/rear bumpers painted thinking they unplugged something while the trunk interior was out and they told me the actuator was dead. I don't know if they actually pulled it and applied a current but they definitely spent some time trying to fix it. I think its time for a new part, which is strange since im only at 50k miles right now.

That sucks. Could you please let us know how much a new one ends up costing?

Yeah definitely, I'm waiting on a response from Mike at Riverside as to the price of parts. I really always thought Infiniti cut corners by not having a locking mechanism on their cars and was never aware of a door lock actuated solenoid in the door lid until now. It's pretty slick now that I think of it.

i called my Ray Catena Infiniti and they said $100.00 or some outrageous price. I then shot it with WD-40 and cleaned it and its been working fine!
but just in case, i tied a string in the inside to manualy open!

That's what I did too. I figured that since I have a speaker box mounted to the car that blocks me from getting over there it would be a good idea to have a back up plan.

mileage doesn't really matter. Mine died one week after I had the car (brand new). Of course dealer replaced for free under warranty. i was almost empty but had enough for the 30+ mile drive. It shouldn't be too expensive
