i think my 5eat slips
2005 g35X 5EAT
i've been noticing like at stop lights or stop signs that every now and then the car gives a mild chug trying to go into 2nd. it happens maybe once a day in auto mode
not last night going on a highway ramp, i put in MM mode and left it at 1st, going down the ramp to merge i get to about 5k rpm and switch to 2nd but it made a HUGE chug similiar to the one i normally feel and went into 2nd with a slight delay and then shifted normal.
the chug i experienced on the highway is VERY similiar to driving a manual and downshift without rev matching type of chug. like going in 4th @ 30 and bring it down to 2nd, and then going back into 3rd.
I think its more in the TCM then a slippage but i can be wrong. I haven't been able to make it happen again. Its really random when it happens. So i figure even it i take to the dealership they will say can not dulipcate if it only happens once a day and i cant even remotely pinpoint it.

chug... kinda like when you car is on its last drops of gas it chugs chugs and then dies out...
kinda like a jolt, dart forward.
well i wasn't able to duplicate what happen on the highway entrance yet, but normal driving in normal Drive mode, at speeds near 10mph the pedal once in a while becomes over sensitive and darts forward with the slightest touch after that it becomes normal once again. its rather hard to explain it

thanks for the explanation. That's what I imagined with the word chug, but wasn't sure since I normally wouldn't associate that with the trans but with the engine.
And based on your new findings, it does indeed sound like some sort of throttle/fuel/MAF problem rather than the tranny.
Do the RPMs change at all when this happens? If they actually blip upwards just before the surge, then that would indicate slipping. (in other words, the trans disengages, causing that chug feeling, RPMs begin to race before the trans engages again.) If your RPMs are stumbling, then its a fuel/electrical problem.

mine might chug when i try downshifting too fast, just keep pullin back or if i downshift then upshift before it can downshift and just confuse the car

yea the feeling is very similiar to that if you keep downshifting into the lowest gear you can get into but this happened when i was in 1st and trying to move into 2nd.
normally driving, when it happens the car is rather normal or very sudden and you cant notice it by the time it does it, its too late to notice
sometimes on mine ('04 g35 coupe 5AT) i drive in manumatic mode and, if i am in a parking lot or something and i want to keep a constant speed of 10 MPH until i exit the parking lot, i will shift from 1st to 2nd but accelerating very very slowly and when i shift i takes about 2 seconds after i push the shifter up for the car to actually shift and it seems to dart forward slightly
i only really use my manual mode to downshift to slow down or to get into a better great quicker then the car downshifting so when i throttle up its already in gear. i hate using it to upshift it takes forever and if your on the gas hard it will keep revving then shift instead of shifting when you tell it to

i think when my car darts forward its about to shift itself into 2nd but changes it mind and stays in first, therefore the dart forward happens. it hasn't happen since i posted and now actually trying to take note of what happens.

It was trying to do a hard shift into 2nd but I let off sort of like a fake out b.c I didn't want to keep going at the same rate. I went from moderate throttle to grandma mode and it didn't know what to do for a second since there was no longer any reason for the hard shift.

What the hell is a "chug"?
