smog isn’t due for 6 years after original purchase... unless it is sold prior at which time I think smog must be done... after 6 yrs its the standard every 2 yrs... if the car was sold within the 6 yrs and had smog, does it need smog again before the 6 years? That part I'm unsure of.

If it has been more than 4 years since original purchase, the car must smog in order to change ownership. The current owner will then have to smog at 6 years after the original purchase date. After that, every two years.

You might pass the sniffer with the Stillen HFC, depends on the quality. Visual test is a different story, depends how **** your smog tech is. Maybe take a pre-test and see what happens. If you fail, it doesn't go on record.

It's a multi thousand dollar fine to mess with your cats in Cali.

I've got a sub question, I know HFCs are legal in Texas, but I still have to pass emissions laws and all that jazz, which is no problem, but my question is what happens if I take my car to Cali for like 4 years but keep my car registered in Texas (thinking about college, I'm looking in Cali, Washington, and Oregon mostly, it also pays to know a inspection place, I was thinking about doing Cat deletes and really making my car roar :P )

if you continue to register in TX it probably wont be a problem... I know people that keep their cars registered out of state just because its cheaper than CA...

However, I'm not sure what would happen if a cop decided to look and found no cats... hmmm... plus, does TX have any kind of emissions testing? If so, I guess you'd have to drive it back there periodically.

Yes Texas has emissions testing, HFC's are legal as long as you pass (Texas laws aren't very stringent) No Cat deletes are not legal, however I was thinking of throwing the dice and hope I didn't get tested by a state trooper, I figured that a CA state trooper would be the only problem there, was just wondering if being registered in Texas, that would grandfather me in.
thanks

I'm pretty sure there are federal regulations regarding cats... so upon visual (road side inspection from law enforcement or at smog station) there will probably be an issue... It’s a crapshoot I guess. Crawford HFC look pretty stock…
