A new appreciation for my '05

I took my '05 6MT Sedan to the dealer yesterday to have the rear window regular bolts changed out so they would stop rattling. They gave me an '07 G35 5AT loaner car and it gave me a whole new appreciation for my '05.

My impressions of the '07:

I hate the interior. The seat controls are poorly located. It looks cheaper and more plastic than the 05/06 models. The steering wheel looks especially bad.

The new fatter and bulgier looking rear end makes for much larger blind spots than 1st gen sedans.

The throttle response was terrible and the transmission felt very sluggish with its shifts. This is not just me going from a 6MT to a 5AT. I used to own an '04 5AT sedan and it had excellent throttle response and quick crisp shifts.

I'm glad my '05 only has 19k miles on it, because it looks like I'll be keeping it for a while.

That is totally opposite from my impression and obviously many others.

That is why I now have an 07 Sedan and got rid my 05 Sedan. Light years better in all respects IMHO.

But that's good for you, you won't have to upgrade for a few years

Although I do like the interior of the 07 loaner I had, I love my 06 6MT Coupe interior much more. This is why I looked for an 06 or 07 coupe instead of the G37. If only I could put the 3.7VHR in my car..........

Yeah, I don't mean to badmouth the newer G's, I think it's a personal preference issue. As an aside, I like the front end styling of new G's better, but the rear end of the old ones.

The location of the seat controls on the first gen are better IMO. But the newer interior design and quality is just top of the line.

First gens looks more masculine while the second gens are more feminine!

Remember, throttle and shifting is adaptive to the driver.

Totally opposite of my impression as well... the 07 and newer are far better sedans than any pre-07 version (I've driven them all).

OP, maybe you got a junker??? Without substantial mods, pre 07s will get beat by the new version.

Looks, quality of build, fit & finish and performance the post 06s are superior.

The loaner was pristine, with only 3k miles on it.

Regarding performance, I hardly think substantial mods are required for my car to keep up with an '07. The VQ35HR gains 8hp and 8 lbs of tq over the revup VQ, but the 07 is 50 pounds heavier. All I have to do is add an MREV2 manifold and a 5/16 spacer I'll easily be putting up equal if not better numbers.

OCG35, acarnes83 loves his car as we do ours, so I am not going to give a comment on my opinion, except that all G35"s rock .

Let's just enjoy our rides

don't get me wrong - I have an 04 and of course dig it... but facts are facts.

Lots of time researching, driving, racing and personally viewing dynos... there is no "opinion" in my statements... they really are facts.

It doesnt mean pre 07 are crap - I own one and would have traded instead of spending thousands (in addition to price of the car) if I didnt think the car was any good.

The OP is the only review of a post 06 that I've read or heard of in person that doesnt admit post 06 are better.

It is what it is.

BTW - the statement that was wrong is a pre 07 sedan with plenum spacer and MREV2 is enough to beat an 07 is plain and simply inaccurate. That is not not an opinion. That is fact.

seriously though, to the OP, i know that you are biased because you love your car and are used to it, but realistically, c'mon man, the facts are that the 07 are way better...especially interior wise...

Don't forget the fact that loaners always look and smell like crap because no one really cares for 'em. When I used to get the 05-06 sedans for loaners, I would look at it and say wtf, is this even the same interior? Everything would feel dirty and cheap despite being the same interior as my own car because of the extra wear and tear. I've sat in 07+ loaners and felt the same way too. There's definitely a tangible difference there.
