Re: G35 Family Car?

I took a look at the FX35 while waiting for a salesman and it didn't look to me like there was any extra room over a G35. It had more height and I am sure you could put a big box in it if you folded down the seats but other than that it seemed the same.

I am surprised anyone has been able to get two car seats one on the side and in the middle... maybe you have small one's because I tried it a couple of weekends ago. I have a two year old in a car seat and a baby on the way so I pulled the infant seat out of the attic. They'll fit but it will have to be on each side and there isn't anyway anyone else is going into the back of that car.

Which is fine I picked up the Odyssey EX with leather last night so the car seat is going bye bye ... I got a great deal on it too. The sticker was 28,980 and I got them down to 24,850. They are really cutting good deals in anticipation of the newly designed 05 model.

Re: G35 Family Car?

Which do you plan on using longer? The car or stroller? I would imagine the stroller would no longer be in use after 2 years so it would be horrible to be punished with driving an I35 for a long time just because of the stroller issue now...

Re: G35 Family Car?

Thanks for the thoughts so far. I did think about the FX, but don't want to plunk down something in the neighborhood of $40k for a car right now.

And while I do plan on having the car longer than the stroller, we'll still have the stroller for a few (several?) years so it's not a quick fix - and things do need to fit now or it won't matter at all. Other options are maybe a short term lease on an I35 before getting a G, but that seems like throwing money away.

Re: G35 Family Car?

I have a 10 and 12 year old. The car works as a family sedan. I had a BMW 535IS in the mid 90s when the kids were small. We had a few accidents in the car(if you know what I mean)

If your kids are small, can you live with puke and other nastiness in the G? If not, get a van.

Enjoy

Re: G35 Family Car?

I have a 2 yr old and my wife is 8 months pregnant and our G is definitley going to be our family vehicle. As for the strollers, we have a rather large Eddie Bauer stroller and it fits easily. Don't buy the I35, 2004 is the last year of it's production and it's hella ugly in the inside.

But I sure wish my G35 had that rear sunshade option when the sun is beating down on my kid in the rear-facing seat...

I agree about the sunshade. Are your windows tinted? I find that it helps a lot.

Re: G35 Family Car?

Oh yeah, as for car seats, yes I am able to get a Graco snug n ride (something like that) and a britax roundabout in the back seat. The Graco is on the passenger side and the britax is in the center, forward facing. We will be changing out the graco for a britax marathon. Then one will be forward and one rear facing. Still in the center and passenger side. Installation was not a problem. It was done by the local police department by a certified technician. Still plenty of room for one to sit in the back seat (reclining the back seat helps too!).

Bite the bullet and buy a Van. Then when the kids are around 5-6, you can trade it in for a sports sedan. Then when they reach 16 and have cars of there own and are to embarrased to be seen with there parents, you can buy yourself that 2 seat sports car

Re: G35 Family Car?

I just can't bring myself to buy a van - it just ain't right for us (no offense to any van owners out there

Eticketride - Would 2 Britax marathons fit? I don't know the roundabout so don't know how it compares.

Thanks.

Re: G35 Family Car?

The marathon is approved by infiniti. Here is the list of approved seats. http://www.infiniti.com/m/pdf/child_safety_G35.pdf
They should fit with no problem if you leave the center seat open. Not sure if two forward facing marathons will fit next to each other. But by that time, you may want to separate the kids! They should fit if one is forward and one is rear facing, but I am not positive. Most stores that sell them will let you take them out to the car to see how they fit. Hopefully this helps. There are a lot of car seat forums that might be able to answer your question. But most will tell you to try it before you buy it....

Re: G35 Family Car?

Regarding your opposition to a van.........................

once the kids start vomiting, spilling juice, flying metal objects into the leather..........................................

you will experience........................................ .......

1. blood pressure increase;
2. higher anxiety level;
3. erectile dysfunction; and
4. higher legal or counseling fees

Decide at your own risk.

Re: G35 Family Car?

The Roundabout is also by Britax. It's a little smaller than a Marathon and handles up to 40 lbs. In the center position, it gives both rear side passengers an extra inch or so of width to fit between the door and the child seat, compared to the Marathon.

Of course, I bought my G35 before I bought my car seats.. so I took the car to USA Baby and tried out their seats in the car. I have a Marathon in the Expedition, though.
