Newbie saying hello....

Hi everyone,
Just picked up my Pearl Ivory/willow interior 2004 G35 5sp AT sedan last Friday and I'm so excited about the car. Paid $36K out the door at Cerritos Infiniti for my G35 with the Aero package, Navi package, Premium package, and Sports tuned suspension package. Did I get a fair deal?
I have a quick question. Whenever I park my car after driving it, I notice before I shut off the ignition, the engine fan will turn on while the engine is still idling. I know all cars do this but I've noticed the fan keeps running even after 10 minutes of idling. Is this normal? I have been real careful with the break in and kept the RPM's under 4K. Current mileage is at 120. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to interacting with all board members of this great site in the future. - Mike

Re: Newbie saying hello....

Welcome.

Regarding your radiator fan question. Here's what I think. The 2003, 2003.5, 2004s AT Sedans (only) have an engine driven "mechanical" fan and an auxiliary electrical fan. They're a "stand alone design." The 2004.5 AT Sedans have the dual electric fans like all other Gs and the 350Z. Regardless of design, the electric fan(s) run when the engine's near normal temperature and the A/C compressor is on. If you turn your A/C to "Off" the aux fan(s) should stop unless the engine's "hot" or needed to hold normal temp on the 2004.5 models.

The picture shows the 2003, 2003.5, 2004 AT Sedan's mechanical fan.

Welcome to the club!

A slight off topic question, what are the differences between 2004 and 2004.5 G35 sedans? What did they change?

Re: Newbie saying hello....

Relax :-) that sounds quiet normal to me. Mine does that a lot. I remember my Peugeot 406 in France used to run the fans for like half an hour even after engine was off!

I haven't really noticed it in my other Toyota Camry so maybe this is a gift from Renault to Nissan? :-))

Congrats on your car too... May he/she live long n prosper...

Re: Newbie saying hello....

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!!
Regarding the engine fan, I now feel a lot better about it. Guess I'm just being paranoid. Thanks for the info!!
mrman_3k, I'm not really sure what the difference is between the 2004 and 2004.5 models. I went to the dealership looking to trade in my 2004 RSX-Type S for an I35 but changed my mind after test driving both the I35 and the G35. No comparison at all. The G kicks butt!!
fXg35rIdA, I live in Hacienda Heights and work in Cerritos. So chances are if you saw me on the 605 or 60 freeways that would be me. Most of the time I just take local streets to get to work/home to avoid the horrendous traffic on the freeways, so you may have seen me there too
Thanks again everyone!! You all sure know how to make a newbie feel welcome!! - Mike

Re: Newbie saying hello....

Thanks KingoftheRoad1 and LMaz. I love my G. I'll be taking her back to the dealer sometime next week for them to check out couple of rattles coming from my driver's and passenger's front door/B Pillar area. Only happens when I drive over rough roads. I sure hope they can get it fixed. Anyone else have this same rattling/buzzing noise in their G's?? - Mike

Re: Newbie saying hello....

Welcome to the forum. Great colour choice BTW!

I've had a rattle/click in my driver's door for quite some time now. At first, they thought it was the window regulator. It was changed and the rattle seemed to go away during the winter (or I just didn't notice it), but now it's back. Still not sure what it is. Some have had to wrap their wires, etc. with foam and it's helped. Let us know what they find with yours.

Re: Newbie saying hello....

Welcome.

I am new myself. I would say that you got a fair deal but not the best.

I do have a question for the others.

Why do the Gs have 1/2 model years and how do you know if you have an 04 or an 04.5?

Thanks

Re: Newbie saying hello....

I know for fact the 6MT was just released in April of 2003 causing it to be called an 03.5... and as DaveO mentioned they finally made the 5AT Sedan with all electric fans. To find out whether it's an 04.5 you'd have to see what VIN number they started installing the electric fan in. This would indicate the break in 04 and 04.5.

BTW... Dirtbag,

Welcome to the G world. You will notice people from this site are like none other. Everyone I meet from here at Meets or GTG's seem to be the coolest person I've ever met. No lie, others will vouch for me. You will definitely learn a lot and should you attend any meets... *AHEM* (Stillen Day June 5th... Griffith Park BBQ June 12th) you'll certainly enjoy yourself. Just some links for upcoming events. Hope to see you around and Enjoy your G... We all know I do.

-Kawika

P.S.
For those who care. I drive a Silver Sedan 6MT CA license plate "KRZ HAYN" = "Krazy Hawaiian". A "Shaka" is always welcome.

Re: Newbie saying hello....

The "03.5" name applies to AT sedans as far back as Oct/Nov '02, as well. That's when they made some changes to the line.. the most notable being the trunk lid.. lost the outside handle and gained an inside release button.

Differences between 2003 and 2003.5 models

Some people are talking about an 04.5 model. I think this mainly refers to the AT manual shifting program update.. newer '04's shift like the Coupe and FX AT programs, instead of the '03 and early '04's "top-gear selector" program.
