Mustang and Me, The Winner Is...

I was cruising at about 75 mph when I came upon a Mustang GT. He had custom rims and exhaust, big a$$ spoiler, and looked to be about 1999 model year. He was in the lane directly in front of me, checking me out in his rear view mirror. A few minutes later, traffic opens up and I hear him go WOT-sounded very loud. I am in manual shift mode in 4th and punch it probably 1/2 a second later. At this point he was probably 3-4 car lengths in front of me. We both keep it WOT up to about 120 mph, when he lets off and taps the brakes. At this point, I am still exactly 3-4 car lengths behind. He couldn't pull an inch on me, nor I on him. I had to get off, so I changed lanes, came up beside him and he gave me a big, slightly astonished smile and thumbs up. I did likewise (except my smile was not astonished) and that was it. I think he didn't ever expect me to stay on his butt like I did. By the way, my car is still bone stock. I kept thinking, if I only had my Z-tube and KN filter, I could of pulled on him. I think it is time to sneak some Mods into my car, just can't let the wife catch me....

Re: Mustang and Me, The Winner Is...

The Z tube will not help you pull. It doesn't give enough gains to do that.

Ha ha, he might have pulled on you, were it not for the extra drag caused by his bigass spoiler.

Re: Mustang and Me, The Winner Is...

Some of us are running 14.2...with a CAI (more for sound than gains) so don't be so sure it was an auto stang.

Yes, and preferably bright red colored one. The blue ones aren't too bad either, I have heard.

Re: Mustang and Me, The Winner Is...

Just to clarify, my Z tube and + K&N filter comment was meant with 100% total seriousness. (That's sarcasm again in case you were wondering. However, the part about the wife was not)

Re: Mustang and Me, The Winner Is...

I just traded in a 2000gt(MT) for my sedan(AT) and I can say that the mustang should have definetly pulled on you if it was a manual. He must have been driving an auto or he didn't know how to drive.

Re: Mustang and Me, The Winner Is...

oh i'm sure some of you guys will run low low 14 with CAI but G's trap speed is 3~4 lower than what stang traps.. and his race was from a roll so i'm guessing stanger was either bad driver or an auto

Re: Mustang and Me, The Winner Is...

5 Spd GTs only trap at 99 stock...the same as a 6 spd G...an auto stang is a lot slower I believe, if they are anything like the older stangs and would get eaten by either a 6MT or a 5AT G...again, I am not sure on that b/c no one ever posts Auto Stang times.

Re: Mustang and Me, The Winner Is...

G4ian, I just belong to that group of people that don't believe in grounding kits. That's why I was sarcastic. I think all other mods often talked about can make a difference. But grounding kits... It just doesn't make any sence to me.

Re: Mustang and Me, The Winner Is...

Auto Stangs run Mid 14s......Manuals run low 14s to hign 13s. An auto G could not stay with a manual GT unless the driver didn't know how to drive his car.

Re: Mustang and Me, The Winner Is...

IMHO, comparing trap speed and 1/4 mile times to a 75-120 MPH "race" is a bit silly. Traction from start plays a HUGE role in the 1320 dash, but not as much in a rolling (or speeding) start.

Just my .02
