Rear View Mirror Problem

Hi, All -

I brought my car into the dealership yesterday, after noticing that my rear view mirror seemed to be dimming headlights at night sporadically. They said it appeared to be functioning properly, and that tinted windows may affect its operation. After leaving the dealership, it again seemed to not be working; so I tried turning it off and on several times... this had no effect whatsoever. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem, and, if so, what was done to correct it? Thanks in advance! Skiv

Re: Rear View Mirror Problem

This kind of mirror is a regular wear and tear item. When I had my Acura, it had the same type of mirror as the G35. I noticed in the Acura forum that there were members had the same problem as you described and the dealer had to replace the mirrors. NOW with the G35, the issue is more complicated, the lousy design made the mirror auto on each time you switch on the engine. I bet most people leave it on and neglect to switch it off. Therefore, it will wear out even faster than the Acura. In addition, since the garage opener is incorporated into the mirror. The cost of replacement is very much higher. Just try to price one with the dealer and you will know!

I would suggest to the members to remember to switch it off when not in use. You don't want to replace it when your warranty runs out.

As for the tinted window affecting the mirror, that is hog wash. When I had my 328i with tinted windows, I never had any issues with the mirror

Re: Rear View Mirror Problem

Tinted windows can make a difference, depending on how dark of tint you have. I don't have the "premium" mirror in my G but did in my Z. On both cars I've had 5% tint all the way around. After tinting, the mirror never dimmed, there wasn't enough light coming through the rear to cause it to do so...

One year later, has anybody found a way to fix this? Is it covered under Infiniti warranty?
