Service engine soon light

Hey G35-ers

My Service Engine Soon light came on today while my wife was driving my car. She noticed no loss of power or any problems. I checked the oil ( tha car has 2750 mi and is getting a oil/filer change this weekend ) and I think it was low ( what a lousy dipstick ). After I added 1 qt the light was still on. I did an ecu reset and the light is off and was for my 40 mile drive ( with A/c on and speeds up to 115 ).

Did I do the right thing ? Does low oil level turn on the light ? And is an ecu reset the only way to shut the light off ?

I'm also worried that my Pop-charger is messing up the maf, but things are running fine.

Thanks,

Did you recently refuel the car? Check the gas cap, that is usually the culprit. Make sure it tightens at least 3 clicks.

Also, you should not have to add a quart of oil at 2750 miles. That is way too much. Make sure you check it on a level surface. If it is overfilled, you will blow some seals (at least the potential is greater).

I overfilled my mower with oil a couple weekends ago... I could run around the yard and leave a billowing trail of white smoke, it was neat

...I wonder how you add color to the smoke ?

My service engine light came on once too. The dealership detected no problems when they reset the ECU. It has not come on for about six months now. Must have been a little blip in one of the emission sensors.

You should not have added any oil. A full fill is half way up the dip stick, so now you have too much. Anyway, good luck.

Yeah, I just read on infinitihelp.com about the gascap thing. I believe that mine was a little loose. I probably screwed up on the oil, but I'm changing it in a couple days. I've got to learn how to read the darn dipshit, i mean dipSTICK !
