NewB just got G35x

Hi guys first off..this forum was amazing helped me made my decision
Finally got an 06 G35x and must say it drives like a beauty

Couple of points that I noted was wondering whether to take it back to the stealrship for checking out

1- Front discs heating up awful lot : even after a short drive ..the brakes were boiling hot even here in the Denver winter

2- Steering is awfully tight..even compared to my crappy 02 accord..i have to use both hands to make every turn !

Do you think this is normal

Any inputs would be appreciated..cheers !

Welcome to the family.

1 - How are you measuring the temperature/what signs are you seeing that makes you think they're "boiling hot"? Did you drive it hard?

2 - No, definitely doesn't sound normal to me.

thanks for the rapid response

I touched the front discs and they seemed abnormally hot ( untouchable ) ..this compared to some previous cars I have owned ( 02 Maxima)

The dealer insists theres nothing wrong with the power steering..Im gonna take it back there tomorrow ..ask them to fix it and see if they oblige

Thanks again..

The X has tight steering because it's AWD.

Why would you touch the brakes after driving the car?!?! I am guessing you now have a decent sized burn on your index finger. Do you have any pedal fade while stopping? Does your steering wheel shake when you brake? Do you hear any grinding noises when you brake?

it was an accidental find..i was trying to clear out a piece of spat out gum from the disc dunno how it got there..but i was able to pull out my finger just in time to avoid serious damage
As far as pedal fade it doesnt go all the way to the floor but seems kinda loose there is very slight almost no braking during the first few seconds of pedal push
havent heard any noises or felt no shakes when braking though..

this is supposed to be an infiniti certified vehicle..if there indeed is a prblem found ill be goddamed

Just because its certified does not mean that it does not need a brake job. I would have the rear pads checked to see how much life you have left in them. These will not be covered under your warranty so it would be much cheaper to do them yourself...that is if you need them of course.

congrats on the car!

1. How many miles on the car? Brakes get very hot, even in winter. Maybe its time for new pads, have them inspected.

2. The joy of owning a sports sedan, its normal, you will get used to it.

My steering isn't really all that tight. It's no different than any other vehicle i've ever driven.

Never felt my rotors, but usuall after a drive a brake rotor is going to be hot...esp after 1 or 2 good solid stops. Brakes are usually the hottest thing on a vehicle when used.

Congrats on the car. I bought my x back in August and love it. My steering isn't really tight at all either.

I have noticed that my brakes tend to squeal but that is normal for G's. I don't really have any other issues with them and as stated brakes do get hot.

I have 39K on the front factory pads/rotors, and still have alot of pad left. The rears actually wore faster than the fronts, I had the rotors surfaced and pads changed at 36K iirc.

Alright i took it to the dealership and as expected they came up with nothings wrong
The pads are good
They said they made some adjustment to the steering to make it a bit lighter but I did not notice much of a difference..doesnt feel like a power steering at all..
What are my options here ? I care not so much about the brakes as the steering as it takes away the blissful nature of the driving experience
Will I just have to live with it and get used to ?

Go to different dealership?

Maybe you can find another X owner local to you and meet up and try theirs out to compare?

Or you can find a dealer selling an ;06 and go "test drive" it?

Hard to really judge over a forum, but my steering on my '06x is light and I can drive all day with just one hand.

Didn't you test drive the car first?
