Question instrument panel warning light

hi guys,

i recently purchased a pre-owned 06 G35 sedan.

one of the warning lights on the instrument panel came on.

But i have no idea what the warning is for since i DO NOT have the owner's manual.

Can someone direct me to a post or a link on where i can find out what the warning light is for?

really appreciate your help!

post up a pic or a general description of the light. that would be very helpful!

If I had to go out on a limb here I'd say the TPMS light is on. It's kind of the only one that's not straight forward.

But yes, a description of the light would help

Is it an exclamation point with what looks like tire tread or waves in watter below it?

i have the same issue, it was intermittent for a while and now it's on all the time, and my g doesn't have tmps, so that's not it. i'm taking it to be serviced monday, i'll post up what it was that night. the service manager didnt offer any speculation as to what it could be(perhaps cause he thought i might fix it myself and save myself the dealers rape- i mean raTe, i SWEAR

Sorry, I meant tpms
I believe it stands for tire pressure monitoring system. In anycase, that's what it does.

This is the warning light right?

You have 4 sensors in each of the 4 wheels. WHen the tire pressure gets below 26psi, it trips the light. Sometimes being cold causes them to act a little funky too.

If your light is on, first thing you'd do is check the pressures.

Also, if you switch wheels, you either need to swap the TPMS sensors over to the new wheels, or get another set of 4 and have them reprogrammed.

A lot of us learned to just live with the light and check pressures manually. The previous owner of my car put the spare tire (full size) on the car and only bought 3 new tires. So my light is on because the wheel with the sensor that is mated to the car is in the trunk with a worn tire on it

thanks for the explanation!

does the TPMS come standard with every 06 G35 sedan?
or is it an upgrade/option?
my G35 does not have the premium package.
So i am not sure if i have TPMS

Your car is certainly behaving like it has TPMS. Think about this...

Car sits overnight, tires get cold, tire pressure drops.
You start car, light comes on indicating low tire pressure.
You drive for 5 minutes, tires warm up, tire pressure increases, light goes off.

Try topping up your tires and see if that makes the light go out for good.

It was standard in all 2005+ Infinitis. It's supposed to be standard in all US-sold vehicles by the end of the decade if not now. That little tire/exclamation point warning light is universal to all makes. Thank Ford and their firestone dilemma for that change in requirements.

So yes, you have TPMS. Take a look at your valve stems...they will be metal and not rubber like in other older cars.

Sounds like your tires are slightly underpressure in the cold AM. Check your cold pressures. I beleive 30-33psi is the targeted pressure.

Great thread since my light came on today and I had no idea what it meant as well. I was not even aware that my car had the TPMS.

Right on the money!! I just dealt with this on my DD trailblazer this week, bought all new goodyear forteras, pressure is right at 30f and 35r but the light comes on every time I start out for 5mins then it's gone.
