Re: Intake and Exhaust

It does boost power in the upper rpm range. It'll give you a slightly better quarter mile time.

Intake and exhaust do a lot more for a car with other mods as well, such as forced induction.

Re: Intake and Exhaust

Because the power goes down at low rpms, and up at higher rpms. In a 1/4-mile run, you're only at the low rpm points when you first launch in first, then you tend to keep the car in it's powerband (where the exhaust increases the power) because you're running full-throttle the whole way.

In normal city driving, you don't run full-throttle, so the car tends to run around in those lower rpm ranges.

Basically, you're improving your ability to race, but reducing the daily driveability of the car. Though, on a big V6 like we have, the drop at low rpm shouldn't be that much. It has more of a negative effect on small 4-cylinder engines.

Re: Intake and Exhaust

CAI's usually reroute the intake to suck in air from the fenderwell or some other low, exposed location. The stock intake is higher, behind the grill and under the hood.

Re: Intake and Exhaust

Personally, I'm not going to mod my car for awhile. I wouldn't put a new intake or exhaust on my car unless they were going on there to help a turbocharger or supercharger. But that's just me.

An intake and exhaust won't void your warranty. If you do have problems, the manufacturer would have to prove that the aftermarket parts caused the problem. Intakes and exhausts don't generally cause problems. Incorrectly installed turbos are a whole other matter.
