Re: Intake and Exhaust
ijk,
You don't have to install an exhaust. But it does help to get a few more horses. Plus it usually sounds nicer. In my experience usually the CAI gives more power. On my dad's G-35 sedan we have the Injen CAI it's rated at 12-14 extra Hp. We plan on putting on the HKS Sport muffler when it comes out. Check out the HKSUSA web site. Remember the Engine is just a big air pump, The easier it is for air to come in and out of the engine the more power is produced. Hopes this helps, NismoV35

Re: Intake and Exhaust
CAI = Cold Air Intake Draws in Air outside the engine compartment The Injen RD1990 The air filter is located right behind the front bumper in front of the Left front wheel. Only thing is you have to watch out for Large water puddles, Flooded intersections, Because it might take a Large Gulp of water instead of air. Once it reaches the engines cylinders and Pistons Water does not compress like air does = Cracked engine block and damaged pistons and pretzel twisted rods But power wise I would go with the Cold Air Intake before the Exhaust......

Re: Intake and Exhaust
I think the point that they are trying to get across is that either one or the other, and even both combined will definately increase power, but at the sacrifice of low end torque. If you are using your G for daily commuting in stop and go traffic, then the difference will not be as noticable as open highway driving and that might not be the mod for you. I feel that it is a waste for me to get those mods since I do drive in the stop and go type of situation. I am currently looking for a way to kill the learning algorythm, and to get the ECU (Engine Control Unit which is the main onboard computer that controls how power from the transmission and fuel mapping is distributed) to behave more in line of the coupe's ECU. I will probably get the above mods anyway since I am a gadget hoe. Oh, definately get the K&N filter. I hear good thing about the filter. Good luck with your decision.

Re: Intake and Exhaust
Yes exactly. I did mods to my SHO where I put in a CAI with a larger MAF and a dyno and A/F tuned chip to go with it. I also put in a ported intake manifold and larger secondary butterflies. Finally a high flow ypipe was installed along with under drive pulleys. When done I found I lost power (torque) between 2-4krpm. When the secondaries kicked in...Yee ha. But most of the time you're not driving the engine above 4k. I found I prefer to have gobs of torque so if I stomp it at 2krpm it goes. In the end I was sorry I put in the 2k to do those mods. The engine was truely wonderful at the high end but wasnt worth the low end sacrifice.

Basically yes. Having a lot of torque at low rpms enables you to tromp the gas in any gear at any RPM and accelerate. Cars that have shitty low end torque make you want to down shift and get the revs up so you can get into the powerband.
I don't think there are any chips out yet and there arent many mods available either. The car just hasn't been out long enough.
I'm not trying to discourage you from modding your car. Many do it and are happy with the results....I wasn't. Just sharing a little experience.
