Weight difference between the G37 vs G35 sedan

It seems as though every time they bring a new car out they improve on everything and at the same time add on weight which kind of ruins the point of making a new model only marginally more powerful. The 1st generation 6MT G sedan has a curb weight of 3,398 lbs and the G37 sedan is 3,615 lbs which is high but still a lot better than other cars in it's class like the Pontiac G8 which has a curb weight of 3946 lbs. I always liked a featherweight car.

My question is how many of you would trade in your 03-06 sedan for a G37 sedan? I guess the interior on the G37 makes it all worth the extra weight to most people since that interior to me is up to par with a 7 series. I would be just as happy with the interior from the 05-06 in my 04.

07+ sedans are better.

I dont have a need for a sedan anymore, so I wouldnt trade for another 4 door... but if in the market for one I'd go with 07+ G35 or G37 over previous without a doubt - they are simply better.

Considering all the modifications that can be made to an 03-06 sedan vs a 07+ I would say that at the end of the day a 1st gen would still be better at least until the 07s+ catch up with aftermarket support but would still be slightly slower because of the extra weight.

The G37 is simply a better car. The 07-08 G35 sedans are really nice, but the 09 G37 sedan is a big step ahead in terms of acceleration. It would take about $4K worth of mods and lots of drivability compromise to get a first G to hang with the G37 sedan. I think you weights might be off a bit though because those look like the curb weights for the 07-08 G35, not the G37. The G37 is in the 3,750lb range. The X models are coming close to pushing 3,900lbs.

Now a VQ37HR in the 350lb+ lighter 1st gen? Wow! That would be fun.

I really don't like the 07+ body style that much - too curvy, and the interior is even worse - the high dashboard with the lcd screen and the controls that point up at the ceiling make it feel like a minivan on the inside. I drove an 07 loaner for a couple days and it felt bigger and less sporty than the earlier cars.

In general, the weight increase comes with increasing safety/emissions standards and the equipment that comes along with them, not to mention the higher quality materials used in the newer cars.

From what I've seen on the time slips on first gens with boltons some can and do runs low 13s in the 1/4 mile. Probably better with a different final drive.

I've never seen low 13's with just bolt ons

high 13's is not uncommon

There are a few 350zs running 12s with boltons and since the sedan is probably lighter it could probably do the same.

But there isn't any sedans with EVERY bolton to run 12s.

Its funny, because i drift from the 2nd gen area to the first gen. And in the first gen they call new cars ugly, less sporty ect, and in the 2nd gen they call the first gen cheap, and less aggressive and IMO get a bit snooty.

I enjoy both. They are both good cars. But right now, you can get an 05 sedan in the teens with not many miles. Vs a 40k G37. With 20K+ in mods to an 05 Sedan, you will leave the G37 so far behind you wont even see it..
