G35x - '04 vs. '05

I'm looking to buy either an '04 or an '05 G35x. For those of you that have one of these, can you let me know how you've enjoyed it? I know the main difference is a little additional power and some minor design changes (namely the interior console). Obviously I can find an '04 for a bit less.

Does anyone think one is far better than the other?

The power really isn't that much difference, other than what the manufacturer lists.

05's have the MP3 capable stereo which I often wish I had. The brakes are NOT bigger on the 05 G35X, they are carryover from the 04. The instrument cluster in the 2005 are noticeably better looking.

I have an 04, I bought it as a work vehicle. It's perfect for what I do (traveling salesman). I did not buy the X, but I wish I would have. I didn't know at the time the AWD could be deactivated by removing a fuse.

Do not buy an 05 for more power. The difference is almost none.

so what if you take off the AWD why would you exactly want that. after 12mph the car is RWD. making it RWD will not give you better MPG because you still have the extra weight of the AWD system on the car itself.

power difference is NONE to go crazy over. the interior styling is very nice. 05 prem models have a keyless ign.

I went with a 05x and passed on the 04x, and i love it =P

There are significant changes to the 05-06 compared to 03-04, although not as huge as the 07s.

The color-matched/painted sideskirts, tail lights, non-cheap plastic interior (this to me is the most significant as it's what I have to look at all the time), I'm sure there are more and you could find this info easily by searching, but I'd pay an extra 1k for the jump from an 04 to 05, even with comparable miles.

I agree. Even though my 04 was a great deal, I should have held off until I found a nice 2005.

I never undestood that either. Why buy AWD only to disable it?? It helps on the launch and then reverts to RWD on its own. You can def feel it's RWD-biased when you push it hard in a turn. And then when it snows it absolutely rocks! It's about as perfect an AWD system you can want

It would be nice to disable it if you per chance wanted to screw around. When I was shopping for these cars I didn't know or understand how the system worked. I probably would never take the fuse out more than one or two times.

When you say MP3 capable, does that mean it has a jack where I can just plug in my iPod or do you mean it plays MP3 CD's?

The interior and exterior alone, are worth it IMO. The interior in the 05 is just amazing. I love the gauges and the aluminum trim.

I went '06 simply because I wanted the newest model with the latest features.

Even though an '05 is similar, i wanted '06 because it had bluetooth handsfree (which i use a lot) and the larger brakes on the X vs the '05 X which still had the smaller 11" single piston brakes of the 03/04's.

I wasn't a fan of the visual cues of the 03/04 so they were not considered at all. In the end i decided I wanted a fully loaded '06 model so that's what i set out to buy. I think the only option mine doesn't have is the chrome wheel option.

I went with an '05x with 23k miles on it back in December. I love it! The selling points for me were: nicer front bumper, painted side skirts, better looking tail lights, higher end interior, MP3 capable stereo and of course the Premium package. If you go 05 look for the premium with the keyless feature. The biggest downfall for me though is the lack of body mods, and the size of the brakes. An 05 or 06 could still be under warranty ... mine is!! Good luck with your purchase, keep us informed if you have more questions.
