What Car/s did you own before your G?

Yeah it's interesting to grow up realizing how much the generation of parents has shifted, while in so many ways they're more protective, and want all the best things, they also seem to have no concept of how to teach a kid about money/budgetting. It seems most of the GENx or whatever (parents) now don't know anything but debt till bust anyways.
Regardless as said of cost, the safety is the biggest concern in my eyes.
Shoot these are kids who don't even really know how to back up a freakin car yet and you're giving them an Infiniti at all, let alone a bloody G35 with all the ***** that come with it. Just foolish.
Enough ranting I suppose, just be safe you first timers!! A precious car to break it is

Still have my car from before my G..... Well sold one, Jetta VR6 with full OEM+ Mods was a great car but was a quick dabble outside of Nissans..
Was a good car to 180k miles, Had some luxury items even my G35 doesnt have which is crazy since VW wasnt considered a luxury brand and it
was 6 years older than my G
GLI Lip / Euro Rubstrips - 17x8 Momo - 12.4 TT Brakes - 1.5 Drop and one of the best sounding engines in the world VR
But I still have my first love and will never selll her! SR20DET 92 SE-R puts a whoopin on my G35 but I love em equally.

I've had a bunch of cars since I got my license 20 years ago. My last DD was the one I sold to buy the G. It was an '01 Jeep Cherokee Sport that I bought in '06 and modded a bit. I needed a family hauler that could put in work around my house (used it to pull some bushes, pick up lots of mulch, etc.). For cosmetic mods, I debaged it, and had the bumper endcaps painted. I bolted a Dynomax cat-back on when the OEM exhaust rotted out, and tossed the crappy rear drum brakes and adapted rear discs from a Grand Cherokee. I also added rear seat headrests so my kids would be a bit better protected (the original rear bench doesn't have headrests), Bilstein shocks, heavy duty headlight harness, and 16x8 Rubicon wheels from a Wrangler with some Firestone Destination A/Ts.
A month after I bought the G, I sold my "original" G - it was a heavily modified 1988 Monte Carlo SS. It was basically a toy that I cruised with my kids and worked on with my friends for the last 14 years. I barely put 1K miles a year on it, so I decided it was finally time to part ways. We did all the work in my driveway, without a lift or even air compressor. I built the motor in my garage (355 with a cam, headwork, ported TPI intake manifold, roller rockers, etc.) We also converted it to fuel injection - these cars originally came carbureted for you young guys that aren't familiar with them. We used a harness and ECM from an '87 IROC Camaro, and adapted it to my original dash harness. Swapped in the electric fans too. The Monte Carlo SS also only came with automatic transmissions - we converted mine to a 5-speed manual from an '88 IROC Camaro. We did the suspension over with Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs, and also upgraded to 12" front brakes from the original wimpy 10.5" rotors. Wheels were Coys C55 17x8s all around. Here's a few pics -

I've always wanted thatcar, sounds like you did some tasteful work with it man. If not for the lack of factory Standard, i may have bought a few of these when doing car hunting a few years back. They're getting hard to find now in my area though, most are rotten out or garbage.

Although you're right that price point is the main reason for the spike in young drivers in the G, it's far from the point I was trying ot make.
A Civic costs MUCH less to fix, maintain, put gas in, put tires/brakes on, etc, etc. Also insurance plays in.
As well, you always wreck your first car to some degree, this is perfectly normal, heck, you're learing the very basics of how to drive, let alone how to mod or maintain the car, even checking the oil may be new to most of these first timers.
We all started somewhere, but a RWD 260+ HP torquey as heck luxury car is NOT a smart way to start, regardelss of the cost.
I can buy a beat up Impala with a ballsy V8 for next to nothing, and without torque steer and understeer experience, I'll be crashing that car, just a matter of time.
Very pretty lady in the pic though

More than likely if these kids are on here, then they have an interest in the car and respect it a bit more. It is the clueless ones that just get the car and dont give a **** that end up doing the damage and hurting themselves.
They really dont cost THAT much to own either, aside from the gas. Very safe car as well.
I got my first 05 when I was 16, and that car was babied. Looked mint until the day I sold it. Now I am on my second G35 and just respect it even more.

I havnt had a payment since the 08 Sierra. I sell Mcgauphys suspension so trucks were a big market for me on the way up. Ive built a rep now so I made some grown up decisions lol. I loved the Tahoe but it was bad on gas and it is a torsion bar suspension. You couldnt get it to find good no matter. I just sat down and noticed my gas bill was the biggest bill I have every month and is only getting bigger so It was time to look at something fun to drive and decent on gas. I was looking at a TL first but I test drove the G and really liked it so I bought it.
