B-Pillar Rattling Noise under load.

Today I drove in another 2004 G35 Sedan, and noticed that under hard acceleration there was rattling/vibrating sound coming from both B-Pillars in the vicinity behind the adjustable seat belt anchor, especially on the driver's side. Both of our sedans have modified intakes, and mine has a modified exhaust, so there's seemingly more overall vibration to begin with.

I checked and there's no TSB's for this problem. Any ideas on how fix it?

Thanks.

I have noticed the same rattle in my new G. I would be interested in a fix.

Sunman reported the same noise in his '04 Sedan... Interesting. I think he took it to the dealer yesterday...

Re: B-Pillar Rattling Noise under load.

I have got the same thing.... BUT, I DID have mine replaced once already to NO avail - the brand spanking new seatbelt adjuster assembly makes the VERY SAME buzzing sound. And yes it is more likely than not the assembly and not something behind it b/c (i) i do not think that there is something behind it,and neither apparantly did the dealer/technician, and (ii) the new one makes a lightly different/weaker buzzing sound than the previous one. Also, I first noticed the buzzing by my ear after installing the Stillen Exhaust.

The moral of the story - it seems that there is no easy fix here. Vince - the technician extraordinaire and a member of this board - is the one that worked on my car, and he said that something else must be tried.

Just so all you '04 guys don't feel so special, I have the exact same sound on my '03 sedan (with Injen CAI and Borla Cat Back).

Hm.. Seems like lots of people have this issue. I have the Stillen and I get this as well. I'm gonna dynamat the door and see if it helps with vibration. Should certainly help with road and wind noise. Will let you know.

Miami,

I had the exact same thing on my 6-speed and the dealer fixed it. They did it by putting a felt material between the plastic trim and the b-pillar. Mine doesn't buzz at all now -- its fixed!

Q (Wing Commander),

That's great info, thanks! Do you know off-hand if this "fix" was a TSB, or was it just something the mechanic figured out on his own?

I have the same annoying buzzing. I first noticed it when I
installed the Stillen HiFlow AirBox.

Re: B-Pillar Rattling Noise under load.

Damn I have this SAME problem, I thought it was only me. It came after installing the Stillen intake. In fact, it's so annoying that I find myself shifting early to make the buzz stop. It's such a high frequency buzz that it annoys the **** out of me.

Anyways, I wasn't going to ask the dealer to fix that one since it was from resonance from the intake. If anyone does find a fix, please let me know.

Re: B-Pillar Rattling Noise under load.

Miami,

I don't think it was a TSB, I think the tech at C. Springs Infiniti just figured it out. Now, if I could get them to duplicate the buzzing noise from my center console at certain rpms I'd be buzz free! (I've taken it in for that once, and they can't get it to do it on the road.)

It might be this one:

ITB03071

IF YOU CONFIRM: A rattle or creak noise coming from the top area of a window frame near the "B" pillar, · This noise may occur when driving over bumps or rough roads with the window rolled all the way up. · If the noise occurs, it will stop when the window is rolled down. · This noise may occur at any of the four side window frames. ACTIONS: · Apply Felt-Cloth Tape to the "rubber door glass run" (weatherstrip). · Apply "3M Silicone Lubricant Plus, Wet Type" to the door glass run channel. See this bulletin for further detail.

quikrocket,

this might be yours:

ITB02028

If a 2003 G35 (V35) has a squeak, creak, or rattle noise coming from the center of the dash or bottom of the windshield while driving, Determine if the source of the noise is from the attaching points for the "Cowl". Use the Service Procedure in this bulletin to diagnosis and repair the incident if it should occur. See this bulletin for further detail.
