Couldn't hardly get away from an F-250
Couldn't hardly get away from an F-250
Guys,
I passed a Ford F-250 on a two lane road yesterday and we met a few miles up the road where the road widened to four lanes. I guess the driver wasn't too happy about "one of them little rice burners" passing him a few miles ago and got on the gas as we left the stoplight. I took my 6-spd sedan up to redline all the way through 3rd and backed off at about 65 mph or so, and I couldn't hardly shake the guy! Anybody own a Ford F-250 p/u? I couldn't believe that guy was keeping up with me! He must have FI or something. Flipped me the Polynesian good luck sign as I got off the gas at around 65-70 mph (too many tickets for me lately) as he barreled past...
Man! I was almost embarrassed! I thought I would have had him by 3-4 car lengths! How many ponies do those 250's put out?

Was it the turbo Diesel? You can get monstrous number from them, but then again 300+ hp gasser goes pretty good too - empty.
I am sure it was a funny sight. Never forget there are some people who you are better off following

Re: Couldn't hardly get away from an F-250
I have an '04 250 with the V10 and 3.73 gears. (~5800 lb vehicle with 350 hp and 425 tq). It does ok but my G would walk all over it. Having the 4.30 gears would make it accelerate quite a bit better but the G would still win. He probably did have the turbo deisel (560 tq) possibly with the low gear rear end and the 5 speed allison tranny. If that were the case I wouldn't be surprised at the somewhat close race.

Powertrains and Performance:
The F-250 offers three different engines. The base engine is a 5.4-liter V8 that generates 260 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. An optional 6.8-liter V10 generates 310 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual is standard with these engines, but a four-speed automatic is also available. The best choice for those who do serious towing and hauling, though, is the 6.0-liter Powerstroke diesel rated at 325 hp and 560 lb-ft. The diesel is mated to a five-speed automatic specifically designed to work with the diesel's unique power characteristics. Properly equipped, an F-250 can tow up to 14,200 pounds.
I had a similar experience pulling away from a stoplight. The guy in the F-250 gunned it so I gave it about half throttle thinking I would dust him easily - then as he was edging away from me I floored it and pulled up and past him, but it surprised me how much low-end speed those things have. Especially since I could hear that dang diesel clackity-clackity-clack. Impressive for a big 'ol truck.

All,
Thanks for the answers -- I thought I was losing my mind having trouble keeping up with a p/u truck! Like the old mechanic says "nothing beats raw horsepower..."

Ya dude those things haul, we took my buddies up to Lake Powell with the boat in tow, and nothin stood in our way, went 90 the whole way up and made it from Phoenix to Page, AZ in 4 hours. Regularly at least 6 hour drive. We left at 6 in the mornin, passed his parents who left at 3 AM, 2 1/2 hours later, made it there by 10, and they got there at 11!
Next time I gots to drive the G up ther tho, definately would be fun, driven it to Las Vegas and that was a blast.

BTW, was coming home from work today, and this Escalade pulls up next to me, trying to pass me in the left lane. I gave it a lil, and heard his accelerator getting on it, no matter how much he tried, he couldn't pass me. We came around a really narrow turn, did not even need to brake, and then I aced his *** on the onramp. At this point, i slowed down to the highway speed, and what do u kno, he comes up behind me again. Still his POS Caddy couldnt do it. I LOVE MY G! Does neone kno if Gs can smoke the CTS?

Hmm, I'm confused. My 2-3 shift occurs at 60 mph at about 6200-6300rpm. If you took 3rd into the redline you should have been closer to 80 or 90 than 65...
