How long do you plan on keeping your G?
How long do you plan on keeping your G?
I was thinking this car has everything I could want, decent luxury, good power, sleek lines, its got it all. I got my car in March 04', and I hopefully plan on keeping this car at least 7 or 8 years, how about you all?

Re: How long do you plan on keeping your G?
I normally don't keep my car that long usually 3-4 years. But I plan to keep the G for about 6 years or more. That's why I bought the extended warranty for addtional 3 years and up to 100K as an added insurance. I really like the AWD, handling, engine performance, and the brakes. It reminds a lot like the 328i I used to have and even better with the AWD! No wonder it is a highly rated car.

My original intention was to keep it for 6 or more years. However now I'm planning 1 year + trip around the world with my wife and I think it will be more practical to sell the car before the trip.

My intention is to keep my G35 for the long term too - as long as it is practical.

Change ALL your fluids every year [plus oil every 90 days].
The G has lots of improvents to aid longevity [no EGR to flow crud into plenum, external oil cooler.]........but air filter annual change is now extra critical. The dirt can only get in that way.
Buy good CLEAN gasoline as there is no changable fuel filter except in tank.
The areas of expense and criticality are the engine and tranny where no long term data is available - newish designs that haven't been out more than 3 years.
Overmaintain them just in case.
Every dollar in maintenance can usually defer $10 in repairs.
We have many G20 customers way over 200,000 miles.....I know of one with almost 425,000 miles. 300,000 miles is the goal and it usually takes money and work plus education in picking the correct fluids, spark plugs, and filters.
Think about external add on oil, tranny, ps filters and coolers and performing every 30,000 mile AC maintenance: vacuum down, change dryer, add oil.........then a special system flush and reoil at every 100k if you want things to last to 300,000 miles.
It's those $2,000-$3,000-$4,000 bills at 120,000 miles from lubrication abuse that get people thinking about trading.

but remember a G20 has my old engine, the SR20DE
That engine is basically bulletproof. I've not heard of the VQ's lastig that long (doesn't mean they don't though)

Re: How long do you plan on keeping your G?
I've gone from a 2k2 Maxima, to a G35 Sedan, to a Coupe. I think I'm about done looking for the right ride.
I'll prolly keep my Coupe for the life of the warranty.

Looking to keep it for the life of the car here. And as Q45Tech suggests I'm definitely doing lots of fluid maintenance. Change oil and filter religously at every 3K. Will do tranny, LSD, coolant, and brake fluid every 15K. Treat the car right and she will treat you right back.
