You can buy your kids a beater. But it can be on YOUR mind having them drive some old unsafe piece of crap that wouldnt withstand an impact from a Modern VW Bug.

I have learned the capabilities of my car, and have taken a few courses with it. This car, its power, it really isnt that far out there, and if you have half a brain, and some common sense, it can be an excellent first car.
That's the expected response from a 17 y/o. It's okay, I was 17 once too and thought I was an excellent driver. Cars in general are dangerous enough for an inexperienced driver like a 16 to 18 y/o and then your throw a car into the mix that can generate a lot of speed within a short time frame. I never once said I'll get my kids a beater. I'm all about safety, but it doesn't have to be 14-second G35. Last week I had a 169hp Malibu rental for work and that would be plenty of power for a 16 y/o (car does mid 16s).

I was young once and I had some friends with Mustangs, Talon Tsi's, F-Bodies, and even one with 3000 GT VR4 (which was considered insane fast back in 1991). We all did stupid and dangerous stuff in our 17-second+ cars as well as in these faster sub 15-second rides. Kids going out an "racing" didn't happen until modifying imports became popular back in the mid 1990s. Once that started, street racing flourished and young teens began to spend their weekend nights racing. During that time frame is when the automotive HP wars started and cars started gaining major HP. 300hp in 1995 was considered extremely powerful. Now it's almost the norm for a higher end midsize sedan or entry level sportscar. Teens don't need 200hp+ cars. 9 in 10 of them can't handle it. It only take one time to get in way over your head.

BTW, good luck at the strip. Make sure to loose those big rims for race day.

I think if you gave your kids the proper training, and sent them to some driver training courses (not the crappy DMV ones) your kid could handle a G perfectly. They just need common sense.

Just because i drive a car capable of 150mph, does not mean im going to take it that fast. This is ME. I let me friend drive my car once and he took it in excess of 120mph on the freeway. I made him pull over and get out of teh drivers seat.

Most of my friends couldnt handle my car. They drive wicked stupid fast in their own cars which are complete weak sauce mobiles, and could easily do some damage.

What im trying to say is, gain trust in your kid, and make sure they dont do stupid ****. Im not going to lie, i do speed on a regular basis. But i do not do it in and out of cars like a nutjob with a death wish.

BTW are my bigger wheels heavy or somthing? not sure i wanna swap them for 1 afternoon..

You should look for a good weekend paying job that you work at for 4-8 hours and make some extra cash. trust me man as soon as you get a job your parents give you so much more slack because they really honestly feel that you have "matured" and can take on the responsibilities like owning a fast car. just make sure you dont give them a reason to take away their trust by getting too many tickets or in any accidents because its really hard to gain it back. IM 18 live at home and never see my parents because of all the work and school and girlfriend and friends and etc etc. Just gain the trust and then let the modding begin! but just remember they did pay half so if they tell you not to do something then just wait it out because its a lot better then having them take the car from you and making you walk
when do you sleep?

You should have seen the hate i got from my auto tech teacher. I just started riding with a friend because i couldnt stand the hate he gave me. "Im like, DUDE, chill. my car is only worth like 13-15k. Wtf is your problem." he would just light into me and it got so annoying.
tell your friend to get the i35 bcus it's newer and has stock HID and everything. My i30 is pretty badass actually, my friends call it the drugdealer car. LOL especially with my mods it stands out to a person who knows the car well.

Yeah, that jealous thing is funny. Everytime he see me he ask me " you still got the infiniti?" and then he talk **** about me when I'm not around, but I don't say anything bcus he already takes the bus and that's punishment enough.

You've kind of proved my point. Most teens are crappy drivers, even the ones that aren't driving like jackasses. Just like anything in life, you need experience to get good at something. But maybe I'm being too harsh. I'm 34 and most of my friend's are still crappy drivers. They're not really risk takers anymore, but they simply don't pay attention to what's around them and the runs of the road. IMO, most people are super crappy drivers. I'm pretty confident in my driving only because I've done moronic things in the past with my old Accord, CRX, the modified Z28 I had in college and all my friend's Stangs I've driven. I've also taken my old Z and G to empty parking lots to get a feel for how and when these cars break loose. Luckily the Z28 and G break away smoothly and are easy to steer with rear. My friend's Stangs were nightmares. Sometimes they'd break away smoothly, sometimes they grab and snap you back in, and sometimes the back end would come around regardless of inputs. Scary stuff. Most people freak out in a loss of control situation. They panic and hit the brakes which only makes thing worse. Whether your a teen or adult, the response is usually the same. BRAKES!!!

It sounds like you're a rare and responsible driver, but you're not the norm. I will trust my kids, but I also know my parents trusted me and I still did stupid things on occasion. I will teach my kids how to drive in the rain, snow, ice, and how to regain control of a car. If my son wants to go fast, we'll go to the strip.

As for your wheels, they're slightly heavier than stock, but they've got a lot of rotational inertia and drag because they're a bit wider than stock. Since you've never been to the strip before and you're running on 19s, I think low 14s is really pushing your luck. I'd shoot for 14.6s as a goal and anything below that is gravy. Who knows, maybe your track is pretty quick and you'll prove me wrong, but I think you're more likely to run a 14.6-14.7@94-96mph with mid 2.2 60 foots.

Get awesome grades in school, get some college scholarships & grants & siht... college loans are a son of a bicth after you graduate.

Spending what little money you can come by on mods for your car is such a huge waste... I make over $38/hour before taxes now, I can afford any mods I want, but I still kick myself for not ******* more of those high school girls when I had the chance.
The funniest yet most truthful post ive read on this forum to date...

Hey Wannabe at least you wont have to worry about a "mis-shift" at the track.
