"Dog Legs"

On my 2003 sedan there was very bad chipping in front of the rear tire. The body shop calls it a dog leg. The chipping occurs because the rear door is too far in and stones hit the "dog leg" directly. Infiniti painted it under warranty, but while I was driving the 2004 loaner I looked and it is exactly the same problem. It seems to be worse on the driver's side, I assume because of cars coming towards you on the center line & throwing small rocks. You should all look because the body shop has told me it is a defect & he believes Infiniti should have to put a little guard there. He painted it with a special coating & it looks great but I assume it will continue to happen because he just painted it but the defect is still there.

Re: "Dog Legs"

Never heard of?? That is hilarious as my body shop said he has done lots and there was mine & another this week in at the same time he was doing. Also when I took it to Infiniti they knew exactly what I was talking about & did not even look at it.. just said OK...

Re: "Dog Legs"

Is this the area you're talking about?
I haven't noticed anything yet, but if it's a problem it may be good
to add some clear bra

Re: "Dog Legs"

Exactly, but almost unnoticed on passenger & very bad on drivers. I think it depends on the door setting (which can not be adjusted). Clear bra would be a great idea. The body shop but this special coating on then painted it. You can feel the texture he put on but can not really see it now painted. A strip of clear bra should work. I used the clear bra on some of my titanium interior as well. Can not really see it & no scratches

Re: "Dog Legs"

Oh, okay, I remember it now! I was looking at my car today, the way that flares out at the rear of the door, is what the cause is, any car I have ever had that had "protrusions" like that had chips, my '00 Mustang GT had chips in the "scoop" behind the doors, mine is okay so far though, perhaps it is because I have the splash guards, they do a pretty good job of keeping the side of the car clean, so may helps this as well!
