Janik, I had an 01 Pathfinder a few years ago. The truck was super nice, had the 3.5L 240 HP Vsomething engine, and could haul up to 5000 pounds. There are still days I miss it, not many but a few. IMHO the extra money you spend to get the Infiniti version (QX4) is just a waste. Mechanically they are almost the same truck, of course you'll pay a premium for it to be the mighty Infiniti!!

You can find some good deals on them, here are a couple of examples. And FIY, my truck was one of the most reliable vehicles I've ever owned.

That's cool.

Why would you want an '03 muffler?

I'm trying to put together a Frankenstein'd stock exhaust that DaveB runs. 06 airbox, z tube, HR Y, 05 sedan middie, and 03-04 muffler. The muffler is smaller that the 05-06 and a little louder. I love the way Dave's sounds and want to give it a shot. I only paid $20 for the Y pipe and if I can get the muffler cheap, even if I don't like it when it's on I had fun with an inexpensive project. I'm just not sold on an aftermarket exhaust. I use my car for business occasionally, and worry that it might not be appropriate.

And as I've stated in another thread, I know the airbox and z tube aren't official exhaust pieces, but I thought I'd include them in this discussion because they add to the overall sound of my car.

OK, that's what I figured. I like DaveB's philosophy (OEM whenever possible), and is what I base my modding strategy on. You, DaveB, and I have basically identical intake/exhaust setups, but I think I want to go with the HKS Sport muffler. Nothing sounds better to me.

Do you have a link to DaveB's exhaust sound? I started to look through the Aftermarket Exhaust sticky, but his setup wasn't listed on page 1.

Give a minute to find it. I think it's in here somewhere. https://g35driver.com/forums/intake-...-2003-g35.html

I think there are a couple more in there, but I've been up since 4:30 AM my time and I'm too tired to search any more. His car sounds great in the 2nd vid. Almost hard to believe it's all stock.

IF I go aftermarket at some time, I've narrowed my 2 choices down to the HKS or the MD VQ. I am going to a meet in June just south of here and will be trying to find cars with each of these. I want to hear both of them in person before I make any serious decisions. I may never find a reasonable price on the 03-04. It's so heavy shipping quotes range from $60-80, add that to $30-40 bucks for the muffler and it's no longer a cheap project. I could probably find a used HKS y back for twice that price ~$250.

Anyway we'll see.

Here's my setup. Keep in mind it was 20 degrees out and the pipes were still cold so there is a little metallic noise. That disappears after a few minutes of warm up.

Here's my exhaust prior to the HR y-pipe. This gives you an idea of how much louder the 03/04 muffler is compared to an 05/06 when using the 05/06 midpipe.

If i can find one with heated seats and a sunroof, it might be an option.

I really like pathfinders. I might go drive one, one of these days. The only thing is it needs to be able to tow our boat. Which is a 22ft Four Winns.

I need to check the towing capacity, thats the limiting factor with the cars im looking at. Our Trailblazer pulled it just fine thats one of the reasons i was looking at them. It was also very solid and reliable. Awesome I6 motor.

I dont see whats wrong with picking up a 10k or less SUV to use during the winter to save the G the beating it might potentially get from careless college students and fargo winters. I wanna keep it for a while...

stock for stock the X was faster 0-60 according to Motortrend.

Get rid of the HKS muffler/coupe MP. That coupe MP has a 1.75" internal inside the resonator. The MP is a choke point. Get a nice y-back and you will have a lot more power. BTW, the motordyne sounds just like the HKS did but MUCH better.
